You guys know I love me some Ironside on the radio. I can never get enough. I wish he went on the radio and did hog prices, buy/sell/trade, or school lunch menus. In addition, I'd pay good money to see him wrestle Gibbons, Sparks, Clay Steadman and tech fall them all.

So when I snuck out for a late lunch and found him on "KGYM" I had to sit in the parking lot of the restaurant and listen to him. As always, he not hold back.

"Is Iowa positioned well for their seeds?"

Absolutely not, we shot ourselves in the foot up and down the lineup this year. 149 is okay. But Telford losing to Michigan. Man. Missouri killed us for seeds at Nationals. But, if all the teams wrestle 110% this year, Iowa will win. Iowa has the best team.

It got a little exciting on the sidelines this weekend. What did you think about Terry Brands this weekend?

Gable and I were in a preproduction meeting for the High School Finals (during the Cornell dual) and both our phones were blowing up. It got so bad, the producer said, "what is going on with you two?" and we told him, "you realize there is a big wrestling meet going on right now, right?

I love Terry and I don't want to pick a fight and there is a time to fight for your wrestler but maybe not in the middle of mat. There are times when you want to rip off somebody's head (other coaches) but maybe your guy just needs to wrestle harder.

That there is the problem with Iowa. Ironside gets is unfortunately a majority of our fans don't. Pushing a guy out of bounds without taking a shot will not get stalling called, no matter how much the fans scream and yell. For all the whining and excuse making a lot of the fans are doing, fact is Iowa just isn't aggressive. Like Ironside said before it starts in the practice room. You find the best guy you can and wrestle aggressively (take shots the may not work but it will open other openings you can score off of), it will carry over to the matches.

A lot of fans? Seriously? Most of what I've seen and heard has been Iowa fans giving props to Missouri for getting the job done and wishing our guys would get to their offense more. I think this criticism of Iowa fans for "whining and making excuses" is way overblown. I don't understand this need to flog our fan base for some dumb comments that I perceive to have come from a pretty small minority.

I think the main point was about opponents stalling - where he has a point. A lot of our fans do complain about Cornell, Missouri, [name the team] stalling - and they are kind of stalling. Our wrestlers have to be aggressive to the point that the ref really has no choice but to call them for stalling.

If they continually back off the mat in neutral, but we are just pushing and tying up without shooting or making a real effort to score, the ref isn't going to call stalling. If we shot a couple times as they were backing off the mat, eventually the stall call would come.

Agreed. Way too many single-shots-then-stop moves.

However, and I've pointed this out previously, this Iowa team this year has been substantially more aggressive than most in recent years.

I can go back and get stats, but I know that more Iowa wrestlers have bonus point wins when compared to the previous several years. There have been more falls, too. And the trend is from several weight classes.

It ain't where it should be. I think they're still more passive than what most Iowa fans would like to see. But it IS better.

Well said overeasy. Its been a little bit more consistant this year. I think the fresh blood of Sorny and Brooks are the key to it. But yeah passive just creeps in way more than Brands can even fathom. I bet TnT just constantly say, why dont you do what we are telling you alot.
