15 rebounds and owned the paint. Can't think of another center I would trade him for right now. Tough as nails.
I'd take Diamond Stone or Thomas Bryant. No disrespect to Woody.

Disagree, those two would definitely mess with chemistry.
Woodbury owned Stone the other night. Held him to 9 points and only 4 boards, while registering a double-double 11 points, 10 boards. Hammonds, sure, but he's also probably a second team all Big Ten player and DPOY candidate.I'd take Diamond Stone or Thomas Bryant. No disrespect to Woody.

Woody will not be missed.
Stone will be gone after this year, fella.Get real! Woody was weak and not BIG ready.
Improved, yes. Great? NO! He was showing good effort last season. This year, another step up. Fans booed and laughed his first two years. This season, he is better. Diamond is a future pro and a beast. Woody-a senior...Diamond- a frosh. DS will be a STUD at Maryland.
Is Woody the glue? Sometimes. He makes silly fouls but fewer than in the past. He is good for 20-25 minutes a game. P State is horrible - 15 boards good effort. PSU - weak.
Woody will not be missed. 7 feet tall with one inch vertical. Stronger yes. Good teammate yes. Hustle - yes. Fans now like him and cheer for him..good. 4 seniors with experience.... Much better than lick lighter!!
Woodbury is a great ROLE player for the Hawkeyes...I'm glad we have him but I can't wait til we have a Center that can flat footed go up for an explosive dunk...he got his shot blocked last night by a short white guy and pinned the ball between the rim and the backboard...Gesell after a foul had a great dunk and was way above the rim, now that was impressive...Wagner and Cook will make you forget AW by next Christmas...I just hope we can get a solid point guard for next year or we are in trouble...!!
The casual basketball fan has no idea what Woody brings to this team. His presence inside is invaluable. Just see how Maryland took advantage of the paint when he left the game. People will look at his stat line and see 0 points or 5 points and think he must have had a really bad game but this team doesn't need him to score. Utoff and Jok are the go to scorers and they only need a handful of points from Mike, Sapp, Woody, Uhl, Baer, Wagner and Ellingson.

I think the "role player" designation is selling him a little short. Woody is our best rebounder and our best interior defender. He has neutralized every big man he has gone against and his help defense has bailed out his teammates on occasions too numerous to count. Plus, I think he is the toughest player in the Big and the emotional leader of the team. If Uthoff is the straw then Woody is the ice that keeps the drink cold.Woody is playing great, but he is role player, not MVP. Uthoff is straw that stirs the drink. If Uthoff isn't scoring, he is blocking shots, or rebounding. Best player I have ever seen in Iowa uniform. Having Jok as 2nd scorer is also huge.
Woody played exceptionally well in 2nd Purdue game, but Uhl was also big factor as Purdue wen't small because neither Hammonds/or their other big could guard perimeter 3pt shooting from our bigs (Uhl, ).

Only the truly clueless fans are still fixated on Woodbury's vertical. Knowledgeable basketball fans see him vocally directing the defense, taking on the behemoths of the Big Ten and holding his own or winning, hauling down tough rebounds in traffic and rifling pinpoint outlet passes, changing shots just with his presence and a myriad of other talents that don't show up in the stat sheet. Those of you who think that Wagner (who I love) or Cook (a freshman) are going to come in next year and replace Woodbury are delusional.

But, but, but... I want him to dunk more. Conversations about Woody and MG are really the simplest way separate knowledgeable posters from the dolts. It is that easy.15 rebounds and owned the paint. Can't think of another center I would trade him for right now. Tough as nails.
Denny, denny, denny: I wish some folks would look at it more broadly.
Woody was the Biggest recruit Fran ever signed, 4 years ago. Woody can be considered the Recruit that turned the page on some dark years. Along with Woody comes Mike Gesell.
The two of them have been the Foundation for the resurgence of Iowa Basketball.
They've built this program, from the days of less than .500 records to the
#1 Basketball team in the nation. (Yes, we are #1 according to KenPom, right now).
Woody and Hawkeye basketball have come a long, long ways in his 4 years at the
University of Iowa. #goHawks !!!
Woodbury and Gesell were not the foundation behind this resurgence. They were both highly recruited guys who are both good role players. I'd put Devyn Marble, Aaron White, and Jarrod Uthoff as the building blocks for it. Woodbury and Gesell were key parts to it but not who you will look back on in 15 years
Re-read the post a few times.Oh good Lord............Aaron White was not a highly regarded recruit. His only other offer was Duqense. Look it up.
WOODY AND GESELL were the KEY MAJOR LINCHPIN recruits that Fran reeled-in to start the resurgence of Hawkeye Hoops. Anyone & everyone knows this #goHawks
It's all about the dunk with you.Woodbury is a great ROLE player for the Hawkeyes...I'm glad we have him but I can't wait til we have a Center that can flat footed go up for an explosive dunk...he got his shot blocked last night by a short white guy and pinned the ball between the rim and the backboard...Gesell after a foul had a great dunk and was way above the rim, now that was impressive...Wagner and Cook will make you forget AW by next Christmas...I just hope we can get a solid point guard for next year or we are in trouble...!!
One of the first things that impressed me about Woody way back in his freshman year was that outlet pass. Most of his game looked like it needed a lot of work but that pass showed me his potential. His outlet passes off of rebounds last night were things of beauty. Just rifled those out to the PG near mid-court allowing us to get into offense before the defense was ready. He's been really working on those over the past few weeks and picking his spots of when to do it. I don't think I've seen a bad pass off of a defensive rebound from him this year.
It will be interesting to see the post-season awards. He is probably the best defensive post player in the conference. Will that be good enough for defender of the year? Also, if you look at both sides of the game, not just points, he's probably the second best center in the Big Ten after Hammonds. And we saw what he did to Hammonds when they went head to head twice this year.
