Am I Benedict Arnold?

Am I a traitor if I put money on Illinois to win but still cheer hard for the Hawks to win?

My friends are not thrilled with me placing money on Illinois. I see it as a “win, win.” What say you?

Well, when you place a bet you're doing it to win and you don't have any influence on the outcome, so all good.

The Hawks win and you don't feel as bad losing some cash, IMO anyway.

Sports gambling is a money losing activity. If you are going to do something that over the long-term is going to make you poorer, you might as well avoid betting on Iowa games.

I used to look at it as “paying for a win” if the Hawks cost me the bet. I did it so infrequently and for so little money that it was worth it. 😁

First rule of betting, don't put money on teams you have any kind of interest in.

Unless you can be unbiased, then it's the best chance you have at not losing money. I know Iowa sports better than any other team out there, so I usually have better success betting on or against them.
