Am I the only one that is more excited about the basketball season than the football season?

You're not the only one but I have always loved basketball more than football.

Growing up, its was more basketball for me. Hayden got a little stale and Iowa basketball was always respectable. Nationally and in the BIG 10. I guess it goes in cycles for me.

FB is an appetizer to the main course of BB season. Ferentz is feeling the warming of his seat with Mason leaving and his recent down trends. I expect to be entertain and think FB will turn out well because Beathard is a good QB, whether or not Davis and Ferentz have better or new tricks on offense is the main question this year. Either way, BB season is the only great thing about the cold weather in IA.

I can think of another, Wrestling.

The basketball program has some good things going for it. Improvement every year, back to back tournament appearances and the tournament win was huge. Not to mention, Iowa staff has locked down the state and with some of the instate guys committed that are highly ranked and it seems like 2018 and 2019 could have a ton of really good high major prospects Iowa can get.

I have been fanatical about Iowa basketball since the days of Lute. I still love football so it has nothing to do with how football is going. ...I just can't get enough Iowa bball.

Nothing better than when both sports are doing well.

Perry - We are cut from the same cloth. Every word applies to me as well.

I like both sports a lot, so it's what program is better at the time. I feel like they will both have equal success this season, as iowa bball will take a slight step back, and i'm hoping football can at least take advantage of weak schedule and AT least go 9-3.

This is too easy for me. I only follow one sport, College Basketball. Not pro, not college anything else.

It never use to be that way, but a couple things are in play. Burnout of the football program, and I really love this basketball program and where its going.

Those dark times really make you appreciate the good times. I felt this way back in 2000 about the football team.

Its a great time to be a Hawkeye basketball fan.

No you aren't the only one. We have a coach who knows what he is doing. Who coaches his team up and gets them to play above their ability and play as a team. A coach who constantly talks up his team and the program. A coach who thinks and talks that talk that IOWA can and should be a great college basketball program.

Unlike our coach in the other major sport who always talks down the program and the team trying to sandbag expectations. It is good to have expectations, good and very good players want to play at programs that have high expectations and have dreams of winning Championships, not just hoping to "compete hard" and finishing 2nd or 3rd in the Big Ten West.

Just once I'd like to hear Kirk say, "Our goal is to win the Big Ten Championship." if it's not the goal Kirk move on.

anyways, glad to have Fran in IC. last year was fun. 12-6. has a nice ring to it. Now aim for 14-4 and that Title.

Going on 3 seasons now... The one before that was a 50/50

I am excited for both and love both. It is interesting how are fan base reacts to similar results(middle big ten) from both programs. We have a shot in the West this year in football.

I'm a huge fan of both teams and will continue to watch every possible game, but am very pessimistic about this football season- the exact opposite stance of the upcoming bball year...

He says that all the time.

I'm cautiously optimistic about football and cautiously pessimistic about basketball - and yet still looking forward to basketball more.

Good post. How they hell are you suppose to sell anything to talented kids, when you are always crapping on the program? Or under selling the program? Why would anyone buy in?

I never understood that.

That's the same with me. I became an Iowa fan because of the basketball team during the early days of Olsen. Well, my dad had some influence on that too. I really wasn't a fan of the football team until maybe Fry's second season.

IMO ...here's the attitude I read with most posters. Spot on...

Change the attitude, quit complaining folks...outside of the Lick years our fan base has little to complain about football or basketball wise but they do win or lose....they find something to complain about.

Here is what UM folks are dealing with in this link below after their loss last night against Utah. Go figure? And they get 4/5 star recruits to play football....two 5 star RBs on that team, couldn't tell last night.

"One game doesn't define a season. Never has, never will. But one game can confirm some suspicions, and as much as a 24-17 loss at Utah in Jim Harbaugh's first game stings a fan base that's been reeling for most of the last seven years, there were some positives."

Can't wait for the football season or the basketball season to start...may not win them all but we will be winners in both sports.

Excited for both BB and FB. Plus wrestling - I think they can contend for another national championship this year....... not as passionate about wrestling but really enjoy watching the B10 and NCAA championship matches.

Also WBB - Bluder's freshman class rivals McCafferys in some aspects.

You are not alone. Ferentz has trashed the football team beyond repair IMO whereas Fran has consistently improved the program year after year, and recruited better and better talent while giving us a brand of basketball that everyone loves to watch. Until Ferentz is run out of town, Iowa will remain horrible in football. But at least Fran has Iowa basketball fans drooling at the possibility of having his very skilled sons on the court w/ the new influx of talent for the next few years. Mark my words, Fran will break through and reel in the big fish recruit and then it won't be so taboo for blue chippers to look at Iowa as a possible destination. I mean players choose freezing ass Bristol, CT or boring ass Lawrence, KS, so why not Iowa??

I'm with you Dan. Pro sports is a business. College sports still has some romance. I haven't watched an NFL game in its entirety for decades. Don't plan on it. Notice how they have to play music to entertain the crowd during NBA games. Boring!
