Amani Jones

Love the way he plays. I know he's been out of position on several plays and he struggles in pass coverage on occasion, but I just love his game. Dude is raw but plays w emotion and attitude that I think the hawks often lack. Cant help but hope he continues to see the field and continues to improve cause hes got a lot of potential...

So will it be Welsh at Mike in the first half next week now? I wasn't able to see the first half today, did Wade play much? Didn't see him out there in the second half

This. Just before the call on Jones... IKM took a nasty helmet to helmet..you could hear it in the upper deck where we were sitting. Even Minnesota fans noticed.

That was text book targeting, by definition. IKM was by rule a defenseless player as he was already in the grasp of another gopher. A secondary player comes in, leading with his helmet to the head/neck of IKM.

Very rarely called though.

Welp - sucks that jones got called - but bigger picture suggests that he should not play much the rest of the season. I suggest drop Hooker to the Mike (or move another LB over and let hooker be the weak side), and back fill him with #33. #33 has good ball hawk skills when he turns to find the ball.

What suggests he shouldn’t play more? You keep spewing the same old rhetoric.

He got screwed and man does he play with emotion
Yeah ... it was nice to see Amani play fast. Too bad about the bad call though. He'll bounce back though ....

Between injuries at LB and Amani's ejection ... that will make the first half against Indiana more than a little tenuous.

Good thing we brought in 20 walkons at this position.

Hockaday looks to me like he may be done for the year.

We will need Jones as the year goes on.

I hope that targeting can be overturned, but my gut tells me Delaney won’t do that.

Word after game is they don’t think Hockaday has any ligament damage. MRI to verify. Probably not done for year. Know more by Monday or Tuesday.

Jones sat out all but 1:30 of the first half behind Hockaday.

Jones’ #: 9 tackles (5 solo); 1 sack and 2 TFLs

Hockaday’s #: 5 tackles (1 solo); 0 sacks and 0 tfls

Same amount of football, but one guy appears lost to our fan base.

Hooker gets burned on a play and Moss got burnt the entire first quarter, nobody bats an eye.

I think if Jones wrapped up like one would in a textbook tackle, he avoids the targeting call. This looked like a kill shot more so then it was, but perception is reality. Hit the player hard, wrap him up, and avoid pile driving him and I bet there’s no targeting.

This was Jones’ best game. He still has work to do, but maybe the light is coming in. He has physical gifts that can help the defense, but that’s not all it takes to be a good player. While he isn’t quite the same level of athlete as Jones, Hock was a better player because he understood scheme and played his assignment. The sky’s the limit for Jones if he can figure it out. If not he won’t, and shouldn’t, play much.

There is no doubt that jones is the better athlete. With that being said hockaday understands gaps and coverages and Jones is still learning. That is why Hockaday was ahead of Jones on the depths. We can all agree it will be fun to watch a Pat Angerer type of hitter going forward.

To me this looked like one guy that is a complete freak in all aspects of the weight room who run into a dude who only cares about lifts that will improve his forty time.

Too bad for Jones...if this hit happened 10 years ago it would have been the entry clip to all the national media's season highlight videos.

I hope Iowa is also going to appeal the non-target calls on IKM and Easley. Those plays add context to the Jones play and help demonstrate that Jones did NOT commit a targeting foul but Minny did--TWICE--and wasn't called for either damn one. Show some guts for once, Big Ten Office. Does anybody out there have a shred of integrity?

You have to kidding. Amani looked excellent yesterday, and will be a crucial part of our D the rest of the season and next year. He gets to the ball very quickly.
