An argument for the athletic PG

1.) Apparently there are certain posters who think Iowa can't have both Bohannon and an athletic PG. 2.) And that anyone who says he isn't a true PG means he is a bad player. 3.) And that apparently Iowa's offense cannot be run with an athletic PG. Stuff and nonsense!

While there are exceptions, the vast majority of the most successful teams have athletic PG's.

These same posters also think Iowa has been "winning" without a true PG. What, exactly, has Iowa "won" lately? Conference championship? Big 10 tournament championship (heck....win 2 games in a BTT)? Sweet 16 in the NCAA tournament? I guess they do have a Final Four in the Nobody's Interested Tournament (don't get me wrong....I do think that is an accomplishment).

Well, when you put it like that. :)

1.) Unless two guys transfer, one for a scholarship for Conner, we don't have an open spot until 2019! And even if two guys transfer this year, it's a little late to find that athletic point guard in 2017.

2.) If you think I'm saying that, I apologize for the misunderstanding. My point has been I am concerned that Bohannon's size is prohibitive to playing him at the two.

3.) I definitely didn't say that. I explained how our offense works and that it isn't reliant on a penetrate and dish point guard.

The rest........We haven't won a Conference Championship in 38 years! That includes several years with athletic point guards.

I think we have been winning. Not to an elite level but making 3 straight NCAA tourneys and winning 2 games is winning. We missed out this year by a couple of games but collected some nice wins along with a few ugly losses doing it with 1 senior starter and 1 junior who ended up being a 5-10 minute player. We finished with a winning record 10-8 in league and there was something about us winning 10+ league games for 3 consecutive years for the first time since the early 80's. Yes early 80's. The only thing we are missing is a deeper tourney run which is winning one more game to get into the second weekend. We have won a road game at every league venue under Fran including 2 at Wisconsin which has lost something like 20 games total in the past 15 years in Kohls.

The question is are we closer to that possibility of a deeper tourney run in the future or farther away since Fran took over? I'd say we are much closer. We are one good NCAA run away from capping his tenure. That's it. One good run blows the naysayers out of the water. That should scare them because how could that ever be explained by them and what would that say about their credibility?

If Isaiah Moss develops like I believe he will, Iowa will have an athletic 2 capable of driving and drawing defenders and won't need a traditional 1.

Iowa could have a set up like the Bulls used to where MJ and Scottie made plays while 'point guards' BJ, Pax, Kerr and Hodges spotted up for 3. Moss drives, draws the D, kicks to JBo splash.

Threads about this subject seem to assume that these types of players just fall off trees, like there's a hundred of them coming into D1 every year, and all Iowa has to do is actually look for one. It's like the assumption is Fran sits around at night dreaming up ways to construct a team without the very type point guard posters here pine for.

"Yeah, let's only go after unathletic point guards".

How many of these are out there, really? 10 per class? 20? 30? Does every team BUT Iowa have one?
