Underwood v Treynor might be the game of the year in SWI. They destroyed AHSTW. TC plays them them next week and that doesn’t doesn’t look good for us. We can’t match their line. A loss won’t hurt us though as it’s against a 1A opponent out of district.
Good luck at St Albert this week. They are down and aren’t the powerhouse they once were.
We have Maple Valley Friday. That’s an hour and a half drive. I see where you have them later in the year, which has to be nearly two hours for Treynor.
He was recruited as a scholarship player for CRSA while in seventh grade, after seeing him play indoor. I got hired by another club at his age level and had him play with me for a year, then only did school soccer for a year (which he tore it up in) and now he's getting offered again by CRSA and we will probably do it.
That age group in CRSA (04, U16) is one of the best teams in the state. Pretty competitive for a spot on the top team. I think I heard they had 36 try out this past summer for that team. Took 17 to the tournament they won in Omaha this past weekend.

Yeah, we are at Maple Valley and @ East SAC. Long drives for both of those. Underwood vs Treynor should be a great one. They have a good QB obviously and they like to throw a lot. Different then most HS teams. We handled them last year and shut down their passing game.
We owe Albert one from last year. Treynor played terrible. Worst game of the season by far. I think we will be ready especially at home on the turf. Should be fun. It's a great rivalry that should be played every year no matter who is in what district. Fans love it. It'll be a packed house at the game and at the local bar in Treynor before and after the game

I know quite a few of those kids. My son is that age but plays for a different club. Has a classmate on that team as well.
He may know mine. He's very social. Played for Roosevelt last year and they destroyed everyone but Taft (which was a fantastic game). AYSO United was his club team. They won both the Burlington and Des Moines Menace tournaments the year he was in it.
Hate to add to this soccer blah blah on a football post but oh well, no better time to ask. Either of you guys know if IC Alliance is still a club? My kids both played with ISC but are both now graduated. Going on 4 years now since I've had to sit through a youth game. I do miss it.

No worries. Soccer was a move back in the right direction from cross country.....

Seemed pretty physical last night! Score could have been worse but for those two freaky plays at the end of the first half. Looks like Dowling needs to recruit more speed - stay away from us.... Pretty satisfying victory. Also, the depth continues to impress me. Lots of injuries and it really hasn't mattered to production because there has been someone to just slide over or step in. I suspect Marshalltown will be a "get well" week like Waterloo was. I also suspect SE Polk will be good but I don't recall that game from last year. Fort Dodge also beat us last year but that was a weird first game of the year when they didn't really have kids in their best positions or appropriately on A or B team, in my opinion. The kids should be out for revenge on that one.

Hey OP, I see Tri Center plays my alma mater (used to be Guthrie Center) tonight. It seems like they’ve really turned it around from being a completely terrible team and have been blowing some teams out. If you wouldn’t mind, would love to get an in person report on how it goes tonight. TC should be their toughest game so far.

IMO that has a lot to do with Coach Duggan leaving CBSA for greener pastures in Texas.....and then returning to coach Lewis Central. Before Duggan went to CBLC on a good year they were a mediocre 3A team at best. Now they are a top tier 3A team. (Of course it helps they are small 4Aish in size).
CBSA still has all the advantages of a private in a large metro area and no slouch but you are correct....they're not what they once were.
Sure will. We lost a tough, physical game against #8 Underwood last week. I watched some ACGC film with with my son this week. Their wishbone option game will be difficult to defend. I’m expecting a high scoring game. My son at Dend will have his hands full reading the QB.
Not a fun position to be in to have to make that read. Back in my day (get off my lawn!) it was more assignment football so on option plays the end did everything in his power to crush the quarterback whether he pitched it or not, the safety or corner had contain, and the outside linebacker had inside pursuit to the pitch man.
Their new coach is my age. He played for Madrid some years back so he brought the wishbone to ACGC and instituted a pretty rigorous weight room culture so it seems to be paying dividends. But like I said, TC will be their best opponent to date and then they have Van Meter next week and they’ll really find out how good they are then.
They smoked us. 52-20. Their line is huge and they run the wishbone to damn near perfection. Van Meter vs ACGC might just decide the district next week. Their big back is a beast. He probably averaged 7-9 yards per carry. Then they’d hit us outside. They’ve got some speed too when the hit the edge. They will make they playoffs.

Alliance closed down this past spring. After some key staff changes, the numbers declined to the point where it wasn’t financially viable any longer.
Thanks for the update. Yeah that Van Meter game is definitely the measuring stick to see where they are.
No son yet, but the team I help coach moved to 4-0 last night with a blowout win over a traditionally strong program. Kids are buying in and the district seems weaker than normal (like southern Iowa weak). The stars are aligning, now we have to take advantage of it. Pretty excited for the next couple months.
Haven't gotten M-town's film yet, but I've heard they have some big kids. We'll probably see some unbalanced power sets but should be fine if we just align on time and play from there. The kids did a good job Thursday of focusing on the next play and not getting caught up emotionally when we made a couple mistakes. The OL definitely played their best game and the blocking on the edge on those 3 TDs was football porn. They had some success with short game on their first drive, but once we tweaked that we were in good shape. We have several stunt/blitz packages installed, and I thought we might need them. Besides one 3rd and short, we played base every defensive snap. Kids are playing good assignment football.
Before the qb got hurt it was classic west coast dink and dunk down the field that stymied inside the 10 with a compressed box. Very accurate but not scary vertically despite the amazing catch that kid made on the TD. I bet they hit on that maybe 1 in 20 times on that Superman catch but credit to them they did it as seen by the refs (not sure the ball didn’t hit the ground). Run D was great. Pass rush was strong. Pass coverage tightened up after the first drive. O played great like you said. Fun times.
So I nosed around and it looks like they have a freshman wingback #20 that is pretty good and plays varsity as #6. I will be interested to see if overall team speed on defense suffocates him...
Great game last night fighting through some early frustration. I had the sense the floodgates would open in the third quarter as they were outgunned at every position. Went from 19-0 to 46-0 really quickly. The two ankeny squads could end up being a combined 19-1 with the only loss coming at the hands of the other...
It’s what I was afraid of. The rest of the district is brutal so we’ll see how they stack up. Van Meter (aka Waukee JV) is on another level though.
Along with the two turnovers on offense, on defense we had a few missed assignments and a few slow reads that let them move the chains a few too many times in the first half. The kids are doing a good job of mentally resetting and playing every play and not getting caught up in the emotional ups and downs of the game. No letting a bad play snowball or finger-pointing. I think they have fun playing football together and take joy in the success of their teammates.
Five games in four weeks coming up. If we improve as much over the next four weeks as we did the first four, we'll be doing okay.
I was talking to a former Van Meter resident at the Simpson/BV game today. He said that Van Meter has been encouraging open enrollment and kids from the surrounding towns are taking advantage of it. He mentioned Waukee. Boys who would be 2nd/3rd string are transferring to Van Meter and can be great in 1A. But, he did say that VM had to end their open enrollment policy recently. They were getting too close to moving to 2A.
Thanks for keeping with the thread. The kids all get along and respect one another, and I can vouch for for that. They take pride in their dominance and really do cheer each other on with their “espn” moments. This class is some kind of something...
another “unclean” game although I thought the refs had a jones for flagging us. Still a 36-0 win. Nice to whip a team “ugly”. By my calcs, through 6 games the starters have given up a total of 11 points (all to dowling) and scored at least 200 probably more like 250. Not too shabby

I thought we were on our way to playing a *that* great game after our first two drives. We tripped ourselves up with few missed blocks on offense and a few missed tackles on defense. They were getting to the flat in the boundary a little bit, but then just moved the Will from a 40 to a 60 and he made the play, forced the fumble, and killed the drive. I didn't think that defensive line play would be a strength before the season, but they are playing pretty well and keeping the linebackers pretty clean most of the time. We let receivers get behind us a couple of times, too. At least two of our remaining opponents will blitz one or two every play, so it was good that we had to deal with that tonight. A few things to clean up on special teams before we play three games in eight days. We had some good hits out there tonight on both sides of the ball. These boys are definitely not shy about contact.
No they are not. From what I’ve seen over the years, in the north alone there are at least 15 kids who will knock your dick off. At every level of offense, defense, and special teams. There are some unbelievable bad asses in the south too. Last game of the year should be some kind of something.
South's freshmen, and even their varsity do some degree, do not care about gap responsibility. They just come upfield hard, more than SEP last night. It makes for feast or famine on that side of the ball, both ways.
Huge game in 1A tonight, Underwood vs Treynor. Both teams are 5-0 and this game will decide the district.
Our boys, Tri-Center (A), have a must win tonight after dropping their first district game against Woodbury Central. Our boys need a strong showing against West Monona tonight to get their confidence back.

1A looks like it will come down to 3 teams. West Sioux, Dike New-Hartford or Van Meter.
There are a few other teams with an outside chance, but in all likelihood, it's going to be West Sioux vs DNH once again for the Title.
