Are We Missing Woodbury??

He's the only one I miss from last year's team.

I know people are bummed out on how our seniors finished their careers and season left a poor taste in people's mouths after a hot start but come on. These guys came in when program was in bad shape and lead Iowa back to respectability and to the NCAA tourney and back to back round appearances. Yeah wish would have made sweet 16 and each player had some flaws but they were good players. Not every one can be an All American or all conference. How many times have we seen pg get beat on D this year. Gesell and Clemmons were very good defenders who took care of the ball. Woody as much as some complained about lack of athleticism was a great post defender and rebounder, 2 things this team desperately lacks this season. Amazing how quickly people disregard players from back to back 12-6 season finishing tied for 3rd in big 10.

As with any player ever Woody had his strong and weak points. Those who have played the game recognize his defense, his rebounding, and his outlet passing. Those positive traits would benefit this team at this time.

An X-box sensation his game is not. Did he contribute in some areas and not as much in others, certainly. What he did do is graduate, play with great effort, and represented the university well on and off the court. Why some Iowa "fans" feel it necessary to rail on he and others who did the same is beyond me. I hope future recruits emulate his personal work ethic and integrity.

I miss Uthoff, Aaron White, Marble, Haluska, Reggie Evans, Dean Oliver, Andre Woolridge, and a lot of Hawkeyes.

Is Woodbury at the top of former Hawkeyes I miss? Nope. Would I like the 2016/17 Hawkeyes to rebound better? Yep. Does that mean at the expense of the improved post scoring we've seen this year? Nope.

The only problem that this team has is that Nunge and Garza are a year too late to the party....In no way do I want Woodbury back, he was a great Hawk, but that was then and this is now. Next year Iowa will be much better in the middle.

WITH WOODY WE MAKE DANCE.BUT DELAY FOR FUTURE.WHO.KNEW? HARD DEFENSE THURSDAY.MORE COMMUNICATION ON DEFENSE.ITS COMING.RED FACE COACH AND STAFF ON THE CASE!HAWK KIDS DO NOT RATTLE MUCH.
the dance ? are they going to someones prom? no dance with woody and your caps are stuck.

I know the guy wasn't a favorite with a lot of fans and received a lot of guff at times, but it seems we are missing his post presence. Thoughts?
We definitely miss Woody. He was a much, much better post defender than anyone we have this year, and also a better rebounder. Even though he wasn't a shot blocker, his presence and his positioning altered a lot of shots. This year everybody takes it to the rim against us, that didn't happen much when Woody was in there. The good thing is that our young post players will learn how to play defense.

I've seen some in this thread about us missing Woody's rebounding this year. I decided to take a look at some stats, and to my surprise, we're actually 3rd in the conference in overall rebounding. 16th overall in the nation.

I miss Woody's ability to be an on the floor coach and direct defensive traffic. I also miss his quick, pinpoint accurate outlet passes.

With regards to the first sentence, I don't recall if he did that as a freshman or not, but I doubt he did? I could be wrong, but again, I'm going to say that in time players on this current team will develop that skill.

With regards to the second sentence, I personally think this team already plays "too fast" and out of control. I would like to see them slow it down a bit. I do agree that if you wanted quick and accurate outlet passes, Woodbury delivered them. I just happen to think it is a skill we don't even need at this time.
