Are you religious?

The facts are Jesus was a real person. Resurrecting is just people wanting to believe IMHO. And I get that. People want to believe that when they die, they'll go to another place. Science says that is a myth

I had my faith challenged by Rabbi Jay Holstein. He was dead honest that nobody really knows

He'll be dead soon enough.

And then the greatest mystery of all time will he revealed to him. :)

Also, tons of scientists believe in life after death.

The best scientist ever did: Sir Isaac Newton.

Honest question. Do you believe because you feel like you need to?

Again, not discouraging your faith. I just find it humerous that people find faith right before they are going to die.

I'm happy and resolute with the fact that worms will eat my ashes. I have no problem with that. It kind of gives me more of a positive attitude on making the most of life (although I have failed)

No. I'm not going to die soon either, I hope. :)

Although believing for self-interest is a perfectly rational thing to do.

On the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus said to build up our treasures in Heaven and not this world.

In my judgment, the ONLY purpose to life, or goal, is to attain the Beatific Vision after death and I've read a LOT of atheist philosophers: Nietzsche, Sartre, Camus, etc. :)

I'm not atheist. To me that is an arrogant philosophy. I'm agnostic because I don't know.

Former Catholic, also Irish. Altar boy, choir boy, the sacraments, catholic schools K-12, nuns and priests, FCA… the whole enchilada.

Haven’t been back since the bishops decided it was proper to conceal and cover-up child abuse. Don’t miss it at all. More prone to buddhist teachings now.

FYI, the Catholic Church reformed in 2002 with the Dallas Charter and since then, there have hardly been any abuse cases.

The coverups happened 40+ years ago BEFORE the 2002 reforms were put in place.

It's safe now.

Life after death is exactly like life before birth. Nothing. There is no such thing as sin. Both of these things were invented by man to control people.

The belief in everlasting life was to help people who are mourning. ~100 years isn't enough.
Death is a burden carried by the living.

I take a lot of morality from religious texts but can’t say I follow a god. Think of Jonah and the Whale, I think it tells us that we have to speak out against immoral acts and oppression and that we have a requirement to do so or we will suffer the consequences. Now when we look at the Barbie movie, from the Bible of the left, I think we are told life in plastic is fantastic.

Bullshit. The cover-up is ongoing. The last straw for me was Bishop Robert Carlson’s testimony (from 2014):

St. Louis Archbishop Robert Carlson — who served in the Twin Cities for 24 years — testified last month that he wasn't sure whether he knew it was illegal for priests to have sex with children when he served as chancellor of the Twin Cities archdiocese in the 1980s, according to a transcript released Monday.

He testified UNDER OATH he was unsure child rape was a crime. Carlson was bishop in my parish for several years. He has since been promoted!

That wasn't a coverup. The case detailed was from 1970...a half century ago.

There will always be 5-10% of men that abuse children.

I stay so I can make the Church better by calling 911.

Why leave Jesus because of Judas?

As a Christian I believe that we are part of God's creation
in this world. He has created the universe and everything
in it. We are not biological accidents, rather we are part
of the miracle of human life. He created the sun, moon
and stars, the four seasons, day and night. He made the
animals, birds, fish, mountains, fields, oceans, lakes.
I almost put an APB out on you today. Glad you are still around.

Catholic are generally do as I say, not as I do.

That's a bit of a broad brush.

As an ex-atheist, I know it's easy to be an atheist with 0 restraints and to throw stones at those that are at least trying to live an ethical way.

(I'm not claiming that's you, BTW.)

I've seen it in person. First BW was "a catholic" as were her parents. They didn't practice what they preach. It was well known who all the folks in the church were committing infidelity. They gave money to the church though, so it did not matter.

Have you seen the movie "Spotlight"? There absolutely was a cover up. The fact that diehard catholics won't admit that is why so many folks like myself are agnostic

There was definitely a cover up by SOME clergy...5-10% probably. No doubt.

There are so many good priests. 90% plus were not involved in any abuse or coverup. Thousands of them are saints.

Regardless, what does the evil 5-10% of clergy have to do with Jesus being universal Savior?

Even Jesus was betrayed by Judas. As I stated before, don't leave Jesus because of Judas. :)

I believe it. Everyone sins.

That doesn't have anything to do with Jesus, though.

Historically, what is your biggest complaint about Judas? Jesus essentially commanded him to betray him

Why did he make those effing deer ticks?

Jesus didn't command that. He said it would have been better if Judas "had never been born."

My point about Judas is tons of Jesus's followers are charlatans. It doesn't make Jesus or the Church illicit.

Does that make sense?
