Quick Recap: The Pack won the first eight matches of the dual - nine of 10 overall - and dominated #16 Minnesota x-x in the final dual of the day. After four straight decisions, Tommy Gantt scored a major decision at 157 and Pete Renda scored a pin at 184 for a commanding 28-0 lead. In the dual, the Pack won 3 of the four matches against ranked Minnesota wrestlers.

Top Match: 125 - Sean Fausz (NCSU) dec. #19 Skyler Petry; 8-6
Like he did in the first two duals of the day, redshirt-freshman Sean Fausz picked up a win and gave the Pack the lead after the opening match. He scored an 8-6 upset of 19th-ranked Skyler Petry. With Fausz pp 4-3 to start the third, Petry scored a reverse and took his first lead at 5-4. A Fausz escape tied it up, then he scored another takedown, and after a Petry escape, Fausz had the extra point for riding time and a 8-6 win.

Honorable Mention: 184 - #18 Pete Renda (NCSU) fall Chris Pfarr; 5:29
With the Pack winning each of its first seven, the lead was big at 22-0. But it was Renda's pin that clinched the dual win, as he put the Pack up 28-0 with only two bouts left. Wrestling at a new weight this year, he was a two-time NCAA Qualifier at 174 pounds, Renda was 3-0 today with a major decision, tech fall and pin.

Moisey's box scores were none too impressive this weekend, although I didnt watch any of his matches.

125 Moisey (WVU) DEC Youtsey (MICH) 4-3
125 Moisey (WVU) DEC Akins (BUFF) 5-3
125 Rios (OSU) DEC Moisey (WVU) 3-2 (Also known as Ronnie Bresser)

I really want a rematch of Gilman vs Moisey.

I must be missing something but how is Michigan rated ahead of Iowa by some?

I'm in the same boat Spooner. We must be still living in the past:eek:. We throttled them last year in dual and they placed 11th at NCAAs. Must b 3-5 super freshmen coming in. SMH

I think people are pissed that the football team is ranked so high, and so they are going to rank the wrestling team lower. (Just kidding). Btw, the national outrage about the Hawks fb team being ranked so high is ridiculous imo.

Wow. The only scouting report I have on him is that he's a ball of fire in the first, but if you can weather the onslaught he's beatable in the second and third. Would love to see those matches. Quite inconsistent.

I am pure homer when comes to football. But this defense the last 2 games. Ouch. Giving up lots of big plays. Eye test is very much alive and we don't pass it east of the Mississippi and west of the Missouri n

"Just win" trumps all short comings/eye test no matter......with a conference title game that is:p

Another interesting match

133 Cody Brewer vs Anthony Giraldo (Rutgers)

Giraldo takes Brewer down 3 times in the first period, then towards the end of the first Brewer gets one takedown and Giraldo tried to fight it off too long and didn't bail out in time, Brewer makes him pay and sticks him. Down 6-3 before getting the winning TD to fall. Giraldo looks like he will be a good test for Clark.

Thanks for participating. I figured if I got the results out there, you would break it down for me.
smiley-happy005.gif

Giraldo seems to be inconsistent check the rest of his results from this weekend he had a close match with true freshman Ac Headlee and then lost to Alber from UNI

Not saying they should be rated ahead of Iowa - they shouldn't, but to be fair the lineup you are judging them on is not their full lineup. They should be a heck of a dual team with a lineup that can throw out 8 top 10 guys, and maybe one more if they pull the shirt on little Massa.

I believe andrege's program is one that has them ahead, but it's really too early for computer based rankings like his and/or SHP's to be all that accurate. Need more data to get the new starters rankings correct.

The two fought to a stalemate after the first period, but Isaiah Martinez nabbed an escape in period two before tacking on a riding time point to claim a 2-0 victory, and give the Orange and Blue an 11-6 lead.

Won't throw to much into the Martinez result the kid just lost his father not too long ago is it safe to say his heads probably not completely in the game?

Pierce was a highly touted recruit and had a solid season as a redshirt freshman last season. Still, 2-0 can be a very one-sided and dominant match. Also, it may be a sign that ASU is moving up quickly. Next season could be VERY interesting with ASU in the mix........

Also Oli Pearce was a pretty highly regarded recruit. But James Green
is the only other college wrestler to not give up a takedown to Imar. That's world bronze medalist James Green. Pearce has to be pumped.

Pierce has losses to guys this season alone who can't hold a candle to Isaiah Martinez I remember how good he was coming out of HS but that was then this is now I just don't think to much should be put into that match given the circumstances

Pierce was a top recruit out of Allen...graduated a year ahead of Bo Nickal. Two dudes just killed the competition wherever they went. Initially, he went to Oklahoma but jumped ship real quick to ASU. Had Pierce been 6'2+, we probably would see him starting at an elite school in football...kid is a hell of an athlete.

#12 NC State 31, #16 Minnesota 3.... man, when's the last time Minny got spanked like that... wait until B1G comes around
Minny baffles me. I don't understand why they had such a big group of seniors last year and didn't have a more balanced lineup... eligibility wise. Did Robinson make a concerted effort to win it all last year at the expense of sucking this season?

They have maybe 3-4 chances at AAs this year. And none of those will be top 5 guys, imo.

It's going to be fun listening to their excuses all season long.

Glad to see Minny getting thumped, because I know with Brands at the helm we will never be in that position.
Also because The Guillotine bashes Iowa more than any other forum that I read, except maybe the mat but thats expected with fans from everywhere. And probably due to the fact I go to school in La Crosse, WI. Right on the border of MN and WI so there are gopher fans everywhere, and I hear about it so much "Oh Iowa is just pushing and shoving and stalling" "Minnesota wrestles aggressively, they're better.. etc." Which is a joke by itself. I guess thumping the preseason #1 team last year in their own house, and then them melting down and finishing 8th at NCAA's, along with Iowa scoring the most total match points at NCAAs last year, of any team, means Iowa only pushes and stalls.

Rant over, thats just something that always irks the crap out of me about the goofs.

Wow, never would've guessed that 2 teams had more match points than team champ OSU. Did OSU have more pinfalls that cut some of their matches short?

That certainly could be a factor, I was mainly using it as a stat to suggest that, Yes Iowa still scores points to all the blind Iowa haters out there.

Most pins - least time.
1. IA State - 6
2. Ohio St. - 5
3. Ediboro - 4
4. Iowa - 3
5. Okie st. - 3

Wow...Hopefully, TnT and M* are using this data for recruiting.

Because we all know that Hawks are just pushing and pushing in every single match to induce a stalling call.

Not that I agree with what the idiot fans were claiming, but what about points per match? Maybe that evens things up a bit.

Right, you get more matches in consolation brackets, so points per match would be the accurate way to use those numbers.
