Around the B1G

Iowa wrestled 51 total matches, 4 of which ended by fall.
Ohio state wrestled 41 total matches, 6 of which ended by fall.
I'm unsure if track includes points that were accumulated before the falls occurred so I averaged both the pts scored for all matches and all non fall matches which would just subtract the fall matches.
Iowa 51 match avg = 5.6 pts per match
Iowa 47 match avg = 6.1 pts per match

tOSU 41 match avg = 6.4 pts per match
tOSU 35 match avg = 7.5 pts per match

Even breaking it down this way I'd still say Iowa fares pretty well considering Ohio state had hodge trophy winner Logan Stieber to bolster their numbers a tad, but it might even out due to Iowas larger quantity of consolation matches.

Minny baffles me. I don't understand why they had such a big group of seniors last year and didn't have a more balanced lineup... eligibility wise. Did Robinson make a concerted effort to win it all last year at the expense of sucking this season?

They have maybe 3-4 chances at AAs this year. And none of those will be top 5 guys, imo.

It's going to be fun listening to their excuses all season long.
When that class came in I don't think the plan was to be all in with them their senior year at the expense of subsequent years. You typically graduate 3 or 4 starters a year which is what would have happened if Storley redshirted. But he didn't redshirt so he was a year behind the others in that senior class when he came in making the Gophers graduate 5 instead 4. Follow that up with a relatively weak class (none of that class of rs seniors are in the lineup) that came in with Storley and you're left with the rs junior class of Kroells, B Kingsley, S Brancale and B Pfarr leading a group of young guys this year. They haven't burned the rs of Lizak (returning qualifier), are wrestling 2 freshman while redshirting this year's top recruits and so far have a solid class coming in next year.
Team is young and will be better by season's end (not outstanding), markedly better next year and back to top 5ish the following year is what I see happening.

You're dreaming or it is merely wishful thinking. The fact that J is almost done combined with last years choke job tells me the Goofs are in for more than just a few lean years. I'm not even sure if Eggum doesn't get the job that it will be a LONG dry spell.

Wow, never would've guessed that 2 teams had more match points than team champ OSU. Did OSU have more pinfalls that cut some of their matches short?
Iowa had 10 more bouts than tOSU, 51 to 41. Happens normally when a team has more guys coming through wrestle-backs.

Ok

Sorry, I have never been accused of sugar coating things. I just don't see where Minny fans can pin their hopes for the next few years.
And even you should be able to admit that last year at Nationals was a monumental flop.

No doubt it was a major disappointment.
I have a little insight into the Gophers' future. They will be ok.

MitchL has been notorious and admittedly successful in trolling old man Meeks, which was pretty funny and something Meeks sort of brought upon himself.

PapaBearSLIM has been nothing but cordial, informative and professional on these boards. Wishing his boy LEIII the best.

What Mitch isn't smart enough to realize is that Iowa needs Minnesota to be good to help knock off Buckeyes and Lions for Iowa to have a chance in Big 10 and National Title races.

No he's not. I certainly didn't take it that way. He doesn't see a return to glory for the guys up north. I didn't take it personally. Nothing wrong with being wrong about sports projections... unless you're gambling.
Correct, it was a slam against the Gopher program, in general. Gopher fans, as a group, are the most envious of Iowa. Moreso, than any other B1G program... in any sport. So I get a dig in whenever I can.
Certainly appreciate the stuff Papa contributes.

How the heck do you figure Iowa needs Minny to be good? That's really ridiculous. There are plenty of other schools and teams that can do damage. If you've EVER read the Gopher forums you would know the high level of envy towards the Hawks.
BTW: Ole Papa Meeks and I really had some good back and forth, back in the day, before he wisely stopped posting. Most fun I had in a long time. And I knew I was "under his skin" from the very first time he responded. He just couldn't separate emotion from fact.

FWIW: I'm pretty sure PapaSlim enjoys the banter here. He should be proud of his son, as I'm sure he is.

It is getting increasingly more difficult to root against LEIII.

Can we do one of those, "Root for him every time he's not wrestling an Iowa guy" deals?

Glad to see Minny getting thumped, because I know with Brands at the helm we will never be in that position.

We may be in that position when Gilman, Clark, and Brooks are gone. I'm not even sure we have a 197 for next year.

So what happens when an Iowa guy wrestles Papa's son?
There are a lot of good guys on every wrestling team in America. With lots of good guy Father's (and Dear Ol Mom) like PBS. But when they wrestle the Hawks, that won't matter to me, as I presume it won't to most people.

I'll cheer for my team, hope no one gets hurt on either side and move on with life.
