With coach Reed having coached at Iowa, what advantages that does that give B.C. ? I sure hope our game plan reflects some thinking regarding this, logic would have some Hayden Fry wrinkles.

Coach Reid knows our D ... knows how Phil thinks about things (at least to some extent). However, given that Iowa's O has changed a great deal from Greg Davis to Brian .... what he knew previously about our O ends up not being much of an advantage.

Thus, the main thing would be how he can help their O to scout our D. However, since Reid left ... I'm not certain how Wallace has already changed how the LBs make their reads and stuff like that. Besides, like Iowa's O ... the BC O is rather limited too. Furthermore, both Os will be trying to execute in rather averse weather conditions ... thus, already "bad" Os will be trying to execute with one of their arms tied behind their respective backs.

The set up is for a rather ugly, low-scoring bowl-game. It should actually be a pretty evenly matched affair ... quite apart from Iowa fans presuming that Iowa would hold an advantage.

Agreed, however every Big ten team that plays Iowa knows our D since we just run a basic 4-3 defense, so I am not sure he would have any more insight then any Big coach might have since our D really doesn't change much from year to year. It doesn't hurt BC to have his knowledge of Iowa's D, just not sure it's going to make a difference. I think it does help Iowa that the offense is a little different though.

Everybody knows what Iowa will do.
Except for an occasional special teams gem. Like this:

4th and 8 at MSU 23

(14:57 - 3rd) Colten Rastetter pass complete to A.J. Epenesa for 15 yds to the MchSt 8 for a 1ST down

or this:

4th and 5 at ILL 41
(1:03 - 2nd) Amani Hooker run for 18 yds to the Illin 23 for a 1ST down

Iowa also successfully converted a 1st Q on-side kick up 7-3 vs. Illinois.

I think special teams will be a big part of this bowl game - for field position obviously, but hopefully Brian can spring another gadget and/or the ST comes up with a blocked punt / FGA. That could be big.

I think by now everyone knows 85% of the time Iowa runs on first down and 2nd down and then throws on 3rd and very long.

They certainly know that if there is an audible at the LOS, they should run blitz the short side of the field for an easy 4 yard loss.
This is by far the most frustrating aspect of the offense play calling. It is so predictable its maddening and it drives me to drink heavily. my wife (no pic) is a casual football fan and even she picked up on this. Its not even a tendency, the only "wrinkle" is an occasional run to the wide side. At this point, a play action fake off of any audible is almost guaranteed to produce a couple of wide open receivers.

Someone somewhere has this stat, if Iowa gains three yards or more on first down what is there eventual first down rate. It has to be fairly high. Less than that the rate is probably single digits.

And Leistikow of Hawk Central had the audacity to give Brian a "passing grade". One of the stats he references is total points. Problem is, the defense scored a large percentage of those points including all in the Wisconsin game. Jackson was a monster.

BC does have the advantage of Jesuit saints watching over them. If God is for us, who can be against us?
I learned from South Park that only the Mormons make it to heaven. Are you trying to tell me that that isn't true? Next you're going ruin the holidays for me by telling me that the flying spaghetti monster isn't real? (I can believe all the same ... as George Michael taught me ... I gotta have faith!)

You have some very interesting teachers however your ideas are intriguing to me and I'd like to subscribe to your newsletter.
