Glad McCutcheon beat him like that...seriously. Its BS that needs to stop. Had no business losing that.
Tom Brands style of coaching. Lot of talk and not so much on results
Pretty much, I quite listening to whatever he says after OKC last year. same old crap.

Really how far off are the folks dogging the Iowa style after watching Evans and Brooks last matches.

If I didnt know better they are trying to wrestle exactly like Morningstar use to. Not wanting to go down that road but at some point I mean if it looks and walks like a chicken it must be a ....
you two idiots did just go down that road
Last coach got ran off for pretty much the same results Brands has had,

Call us whatever you want but you cant expect to sit on a 2 point lead like a fat cat for the WHOLE entire 3rd period. Its not like McCutcheon was displaying all world defense. Brooks didnt change leval or even attemp anything other than a underhook tie up. We should be finishing guys off in thos esituation in both 174 & 184.

Quite frankly Evans style was morphed into something I am not exactly proud of. Sure hes always been limted offensivly and lived off a double coming in from HS. But he was a vicouis rider and would rip an arm off turning a guy. Now he doesnt ride to trun but to eat clock. He wants to play defense versus he use to try and create scrambles. How in the world he wasnt rang up for stalling esp off that whistle with 30 sec or so left and he runs 10 feet backwards like that.

Win or lose its hard to get behind that. If that makes me an idoit fine by me.

So here's a little story about my day. When Mrs. V returned from St. Thomas (work trip) on Thursday, I explained that I had wrestling all day on Sat. This AM, I took the computers and hangers to the basement saying, "I'm going to go iron some shirts and listen to wrestling."

She comes down stairs and find me with two computers and the radio going. I've got my black/gold tube socks on and am under three Iowa blankets.

She looks at me and says "what are you doing?" (not in a good way)

"Ironing!"

"No you're not, you're just listening to wrestling." Then a bunch of talking followed and I said I could drive to dance.

After she left, the boy looks at me and said, "The iron isn't even plugged in"

Anyway, thanks WDM.

Ironing: 1) The act of listening to Former Iowa wrestler and NCAA Champion Mark Ironside call wrestling. 2) Using and Iron to erase wrinkles from clothes.

According to this definition you were doing exactly what you said...

All 3 are in good position to qualify, regardless.

Thank you so much Vallholl (and WWDM!) for today's coverage! We have a wedding reception tonight so I'll have to read through your PBP post-semis.....will be eagerly anticipating curling up with my tablet later tonight. Come on Hawks!

I love this board. Where else can you find people calling a person with a different opinion stupid or dbag? I agree it's too early to be panicking, but come on people unless you are a moderator stfu and let people talk, maybe instead of calling them a retard you can respectably disagree and explain your opinion with some grace. Going straight to "you're stupid" is entirely too dismissive and it makes you look like a ignorant fool

We would be sitting pretty sweet if Brooks had not crapped the bed. That kept PSU in distance and gave Pfar a nice shot at the finals.

Alright I am sorry, but saying that Zalesky was run off for similar results? Brands' results have been superior to Zaleskys in every category with the exception of Big Ten champs.

Love tournament days. Morons are always out in force

Doubt it. Don't think he has one quality win. Not sure what his RPI is, and it may not even matter depending on how injured he is

Agree 100%. Tom Brands has had pretty much the same amount of success as Jim Zalesky, if you ignore the fact that he's had a lot more success. If not for the fact that he's had a lot more success, he would have had pretty much the same amount of success. So if you disregard the fact that Brands has been a lot more successful, you could pretty much say that Brands and Zalesky have had just about the same amount of success. And Zalesky got run off for his lack of success, so just connect the dots.

Overall I am pleased when you consider we won both at 133 and 141 - and they were smart in the way they wrestled. Kelly was expected, he fought hard against a better wrestler.

I have followed wrestling long enough to pick up on a guy who is not 100%. It was pretty obvious that Moore was not the same guy that he was previously. You can be critical of the coaches for not replacing but here is the situation - the guy has a ton of experience, there is no indications that what is impacting him is massive. If nobody else in the room can beat him then what other option do you really have? His history at the national tournament is horrible, his performance this season did not change anyone's opinion that he was not going to contribute anything at all towards the team point total. Not surprised that he lost and I think some people thought moore of him than you should. Regardless of his past or injuries, I am pretty sure if he could have done better he would have - I cheer for him because he is a Hawkeye, not because he is great wrestler.

Sammy is the only upset in my opinion, but the one thing that he has displayed is youthful mistakes. He had a legitimate shot at winning it and so it is too bad he went down this way, but I also believe that he has the ability to win back to 3rd and hopefully he does.

I also thought Josh there was a good chance Josh would have lost already so actually we about where we should be.

I'm getting dizzy. I just want BIGs.

Thanks WWWDM and Vall for the pbp.

if brooks, moore , and Kelly all win next match will qualify 10 for nats. gilman has not clinched but he would have to lose three in a row.

All 3 are cinches for at large/wild cards. We will have 10.

Minny is looking like 8.

This isn't even a good troll.
Really? Let's compare.

Ncaa team titles. Both have 3. Before anyone says Zalesky won with Gables guys ask yourself if Brands wins any without Perry, Dennis and Morningstar. All Z recruits.

Ncaa 2nd place. Zalesky had 2. Brands has zero.

Ncaa 3rd place. Brands has 2 Zalesky had none.

Ncaa 4th place 2 apiece.

Both had one 8th place and Zalesky had an additional 7th.

Big 10 finishes.

Both have 3 championships

2nd place. Zalesky had 3 and Brands has 2.

3rd place. Brands has 3 and Zalesky had 1.

Zalesky also had a 4th and 6th.

Brands coached 44 all americans so far. Zalesky 45.

Brands 9 National champs and Zalesky 10.

Both of their best years were in the beginning of their careers at Iowa when both had the benefit of the previous coaches recruits.

I'd say they are pretty damn close to equal in success in about the same time frame. 8 years for Brands and 9 for Zalesky.

Unlike some of you I don't need to call someone an idiot because they have a different opinion.

Because I question the coach doesnt make me any less of a fan. I'm tired of watching 0-0 first periods. Hearing time after time how the wrestlers know they need to do some thing different. We dont out condition anyone anymore. Other teams have stepped up their game. Credit to them.

I want Iowa to intimidate the other team on the mat. With their wrestling. I dont see that happening, Sorry.

Here's to two great sessions left in the tournament.Hopefully things go well and Iowa dominates on the mat instead of rhetoric.

Did you just seriously compare Morningstar, Perry, and Dennis to Juergens, Ironside, McGinness, Joe Williams, Fullhart, and Hand (Three returning champs)? Think Gable left the cupboard a little bit more than Zalesky did to Brands.

Brands has never finished out of the top five except when using Zalesky's guys. The problem with Zalesky is that he did once the Gable spigot was turned off. While no Coach is exempt from criticism, lets not pretend that Brands didn't have to rebuild a program versus being handed the keys to a Ferrari like Zalesky.

There is no comparison to what Z left Tom. Under-achieving Falck, probably a full scholly eating T-shirt, undersized Beatty, and Perry didn't win a championship before Brands also.

Tom's biggest weakness is his turnover in assistants and some incredibly bad luck at 149 recruits. I love M*, but I'd take Jay-bo in a heartbeat.
