I know, Gobblin. I sucked last night. I missed the fist 5 matches due to work related crap...and when I walked into the Rathjen match I thought, WTF. The reality is that I'm a very happy person, but get so fricking fired up about Iowa wresting. I want so bad to kick PSU's ass and get frustrated early and often when I think they have the drop on us.
Sadly those late third period scrambles bit the Bull in the ass at NCAAs. I hated the way his NCAAs went, especially given that he was a 4-time B10 champ. I so wanted him to take out PSU every year!!

I have nothing but love and respect for Tarp, but I think his version of "TDS" has become a permanent ailment and the only way to heal him would be Tom retiring or being replaced...

Great interview. Oregon State wrestled tough. They stayed on the mat. They had a good environment with a pretty rowdy arena. Their environment is 10x's the environment of quiet state out east. Hopefully they build that team into a top 10ish program. The football team had a bye and did their best at heckling along with the rest of the students who were all very close to the team bench. Some matches didn't go as well as hoped, but overall the guys took care of business. Some kicked a**. Some gutted out wins when they didn't have their best stuff or maybe didn't feel the best. 1 might have even looked at wrestle stat and overlooked his opponent.
It will be interesting to see how Oregon State fares the rest of the season. A couple of their guys are probably better than we may be giving credit for. Nelson obviously has to shoot more. Guys aren't going to give him go behinds. He's fast twitch so he has to pull the trigger. Especially knowing there is at least 1 pitbull wanting that spot. Kennedy is rarely getting brought up. He's not conceding to anyone.

I remember a time a certain wrestler got benched for a true freshman Abe Assad who was just slightly better. I can't remember the kids name though.

Cash was the 184 starter through Midlands, where he beat Nelson h2h in the R12 and finished 4th. Abe got 2nd that same tournament (beating Braunagal who beat Cash) and then had his redshirt pulled afterwards
Actually Nelson was the primary starter going into Midlands where he lost to Cash. I say primary starter because he got the nod against Iowa State and one other meet while Cash got Princeton and Luther open. So you're mostly correct my order was wrong. The main point remains that Nelsons last name didn't earn him anything that year and eventually a true freshman that was only marginally better replaced Nelson and Cash.
How did you get that from my post? I don't have any idea how it will shake out. I do think it's overblown how bad 184 is for Gabe. I don't think he minds eating more of Phil's cooking. And I think is ceiling is just as high as either weight. Me saying at least 1 pitbull means PK and possibly GA. That's assuming PK is going for 174 instead of 165. And that's also assuming Angelo wants to Redshirt, which I don't know his thoughts on.
I'm not privy to the plans but imagine the Soldier Salute will be the first chance to solidify a spot in the lineup. Then you still better take care of business during the conference portion of the season, or you leave it up to a late season wrestle off. Or you open it up and the other guy comes out with a huge win or bonus point wins. Best way to get your spot is to win the Soldier Salute and then get bonus points against those not in the top 10 while beating those that are. Leave no doubt the spot is yours.
Gotcha. That's why I asked. Seemed like you were saying the spot was closed off to only Kennedy and Nelson.

I don't know what he weighed in but that's a good question. Edited to add once again I wouldn't be surprised that Gabe wants to stay up unless AF wants unleashed. It's a great problem to have.
