According to NCAA stats, Iowa is the only team NOT to give up a rushing touchdown through 4 games. There is one other, Navy and they have only played 3 games.
More than likely that ends this week, but if we do in fact continue that streak then that would mean Iowa is 5-0 and ranked for the first time in about 5 years!
Iowa has actually been doing this for the last few years now, at least in the non-conference portion of the schedule. Not sure how many years it's been going on that Iowa was one of the last teams in the country to surrender a rushing TD, but more often than not they have forced non-conference teams to beat them through the air. (Unfortunately, that stat hasn't always translated to optimal success, or even an ability to carry that well into conference play)
What I'd love to see is Iowa still be able to limit Wisconsin's effectiveness running the ball, even if they surrender a rushing TD. Last year, the Badgers had 266 yds and 3 TDs on 42 carries. They threw just 14 times, but Stave completed 11 passes including the killer 3rd down play to Gordon on that wheel route on the final possession.
I think, while Wisconsin has shown improvement in the passing game, Iowa needs to force them to throw more and set up the potential risk for turnovers and other mistakes and then obviously they need to do a better job winning on 3rd down.............................and NOT giving up f***ing 3rd and 15+ and 4th and 15+.
*tosses chair*
That's about the only thing that hasn't gone away yet in terms of the difference in this year's team to previous years.....
