Badgers Playing LSU at Lambeau Field?

Wont be an issue for Iowa we have been there awhile.

Go through the last 10 years and find 5 B1G that play a tougher noncon.

Everybody wants Iowa to play a better noncon games, but relative to their peers, they more than hold their own. If Iowa wants to be in line with the rest of the power 5 world, then they do need to change their noncon schedule...and soften it up a bit.[/QUOTE]
Hey if your happy with the noncom schedule so be it but I think many would love to see a schedule more like Wisconsin is doing.Playing LSU or ISU hmmm tough decision.

Sadly, this is true. The BIG has made a living off the MAC and directional mid-west schools in the non-conference. Considering Iowa State is actually a Big12 team and considered a power 5 school, for Iowa to already be playing 2 power 5 schools on average every season in the non-conference is already stronger than what most of the country is doing. Iowa doesn't get into marquee match-ups but the sum is always greater than the parts.

The only way for Iowa to improve the non-conference slate would be to eliminate the game with little bro, and Iowa could then in theory at least schedule an opponent worth losing to.

They open with LSU and then their first 6 conference games are against Michigan, Michigan St, Ohio St, Iowa, Nebraska and Northwestern. Wisconsin could be a pretty decent team with a very average record. I'd be shocked if they won the west with that schedule, unless they are truly an elite team.

That is brutal. Better them than us.

With a 9 game conference schedule, scheduling a high power 5 conference just ain't gonna happen as long as ISU is on the schedule.

So what we do is play ISU, then a non power 5 team but who has done well lately like;

Houston
Memphis
BYU
Fresno State
South Florida
Central Florida
SMU
Tulsa
Boise State

It can be done.

Miami Colorado Nebraska Tennessee were early games with powerhouse teams in HF era. KF hasn't scheduled the big boys unless you drop down to 1AA and include UNI and now this year with NDST
The best team Iowa played in Hayden's final 4 years OOC was Arizona.

If we can convince them that there will be no return game at their place.

Technically we are the power 5 school. You would think that comes with some leverage.

If we do that then we would likely drop the other power 5 team we schedule. Again Iowa may not schedule top flight opponents, but playing two power 5 teams in the non-conference already makes the schedule tougher than most of the country.

Again too you have to have someone that is willing to play. Iowa is one of those teams an elite team may not want any part of. They way many of us feel about Iowa State a blue blood program would see Iowa in the same light. Not much to be gained (playing Iowa doesn't introduce the team to a new fertile recruiting ground, Iowa's national perception isn't good enough to overcome an early season loss and beating Iowa wouldn't give much of a boost where a loss would all but end the season early) but there is enough talent, and Iowa with a few exceptions has played everyone close for the last 20 years. Its almost all risk with little to no reward.

With the BIG going to 9 conference games, there's almost no reason to beef-up the non-conference especially if Iowa continues to play 2 power 5 teams each season.

People as long as Barta is AD and ISU is on the schedule which they are for quite some time another power 5 non conf game isn't happening. Barta is not giving up the 7th home game. And no power 5 team is coming to Iowa without expecting us to play at their place. If Iowa does a home and home with 9 conf games means sacrificing a home game and Barta is not going to let that happen. Just like he won't let ISU drop off schedule.

Iowa is done playing two Power 5 teams OOC. That's the draw back to a 9-game schedule. Iowa State is the only one now unless, as it's been mentioned a million times now, we drop ISU or concede a 7th home game to play a 6th road game against a P5 team.

We could play a Houston or a Cincinnati or a Colorado State, but in this day and age those programs would probably like a return game too. If they don't mind, then it's certainly possible, but that's the two-way street when it comes to scheduling.

How many of those upper tier mid majors come knocking on Iowa's door asking for a one-off at our place, and how many of those same teams has Iowa approached about that as well? Guess the easier thing to do is just assume nothing is happening and blame Barta....
