Ben Krikke

My concern comes from a couple things:
1. The shots he took last night were some of the worst you can take in basketball. Jordan Bohannon said it on his podcast today and statistically he is correct. There isn't much good that comes from shooting shots 17-20 feet from the basket. Where would we have been if those shots had fallen at a normal rate? There's a reason he got those shots. He's a scorer based on quality of shot not quantity. Some guys are chuckers to get their points, that's not Ben. So can he score without volume shooting against better competition. I don't know.
2. He did not play big ten competition for 33 games last year at valpo. Can he keep that level of shooting up for the season? Can Freeman give him enough minutes away from the other teams bigs. I think we saw the same thing with Rebraca the last two seasons. It took a year of adjustment before rebraca was what I would call a good big in his last season. Filip when from 16.8 as a junior at North Dakota to 5.8 at Iowa his first season. He shot 36% from three as a junior at North Dakota to 16% at iowa then 33% in his last year. Point being, it's a physical grind while also having to learn and play in new arena's.
So yeah I hope he can keep it up but in no way expect it will.
I agree for most people the midrange shot is a bad percentage shot because it’s a lost art. But there are a few people who can still make it. Garza was pretty good from about anywhere. It’s good that he can adapt his offense to the defender.

I think he’s further ahead than Rebraca was in his first year at Iowa. But remember, he’s a fifth year player, too. With lots of decent experience and a little more size.

Agree that he looked bad on a couple hedges. Gave up wide open layups. His foot speed is not any better than Garza’s.

I like to see a mid-range jumper once in a while. Great work against Creighton.

Don’t see anybody doing that. Rebraca was definitely a battler. Got the most out of his abilities. 2 totally different players. Like both of them.
Agree, two very different players. Almost opposite really.

Rebracas scoring has no relevance to Krikke because, obviously Rebraca can't do the majority of the things Ben can.

You both asked who can play D, I replied Freeman then the Woodnuts reference came along.

It has nothing to do with Krikke screen D, which is non existent
No I did not ask a question.

I simply stated the fact that Iowa has not had anyone defend a screen properly since Woodbury.

Iowa players don't play defense the right way and I doubt anything will change that.

Krikke has been consistent, steady, and reliable so far. Just what we needed in our post player this year. He was a great "get" for the Hawkeyes!
