So how will it work with Ben playing football and wrestling? Realistically, if Iowa football gets into a bowl game in late December or early January, does that mean Ben won't be available to wrestle until possibly mid-January? If that is the case, will he be able to get in enough matches to qualify for the Big 10 and National tournaments? Would he actually be wrestling some matches while the football season is still ongoing? I have heard some rumblings that he may not actually end up wrestling but if he does how will that work?

You need 0 matches to qualify for big tens. And you just need to place in an auto qualifying spot to qualify for nationals. He could be 0-0 entering big tens which would mean he’s not seeded 1 or 2. Win it and enter NCAAs at 4-0.

Oh wow - I was not aware it worked that way. Good news on that front....

Search “Kueter” on this site and you will find about 5,000 conversations on this subject. Enjoy.
I actually did that and briefly scanned several pages of thread titles and did not see anything that "Popped" out to me as far as discussion on the intricacies of managing a wrestling and football schedule simultaneously.. There may have been something there and I may have missed it but I just had a quick question and knew I could rely on the good Hawkeye fans on this board for an answer. I am sure inside one of those threads there is some discussion about it but when you have hundreds of threads and possibly thousands of replies (5,000 according to you), I just thought the good guys on the board wouldn't mind answering a quick question.

If Kueter is undefeated B1G champion with a low number of matches, the seeding criteria will punish him as he will not have a coaches ranking or RPI and only a couple of quality wins. On the other hand, being undefeated and conference champion will seed him over some of the field.

I wasn't talking about NCAA seeding. I was talking about big ten seeding. Saying he wouldn’t be the 1 or 2 seed meant he wouldn’t get a bye so he would have a minimum of 4 matches.

Understood. Just making the additional point that his seed at NCAA’s would be impacted.

Spooner isn't one of the "good guys." He's the foam on top of the cesspool. He gets upset when people tried to avoid swimming through the crap.

Is Iowa currently recruiting anyone?
There was talk at one time we were looking at the HW from IL that was on the finals at Fargo.

However, he might also be a football prospect. If not and he chooses wrestling we're going to have the dilemma of, what happens in January. No solid HW is going to want to wrestle up til Feb and then give up the spot to BK.

On the bright side, we don't have to give BK any of our precious 9.9 scholarship money.

This situation will be fluid over the next year or so. Nobody knows how it's going to work.

How do redshirts and two sports apply?if he redshirts in football can he go right away in wrestling or vice versa? Would love to see him just try both sports as a freshman, put on weight and wrestle some unattached meets…
I feel like without Spencer or woods next year it’s not likely a NC roster anyway… let him decide what is best after trying both sports for a year while he gets up to 245-250+ as a RS freshman.
But admittedly, I know little about his immediate outlook for wrestling as a freshman, maybe he’s that good you can’t keep him off the mats

I think others have confirmed the answer is that he gets a redshirt in each sport. So he can go 1 and not the other.

Woods will be back next year.
