Big props to Woody...................

God bless the Ad Daddy!!! On one of those scraps down low, Swanigan pounded the crap outta Woody and he did not back down!! And you could see Adam getting his wind back. Swanigan is a LOAD. Also, Woody's FT shooting has been a strength since last season. He did great against the best front line in the B1G.

And because of foul trouble he only got 23 minutes. He made 'em count. I'm gonna really miss Woody. I'm one of those weirdos who thought he looked pretty good as a freshman. Not great, but he showed us some stuff even back then that I thought would pay off as time went on. But, he almost never dunks so he must be bad.

Speaking of Woody... I think his face looks much thinner these days. I thought as a freshman, he looked like James Bond big guy with the gold capped teeth. Has he thinned down some but put it back on as muscle???

Two great games from Woody in a row. Like those reverse layups he's making using the rim to keep away shot blockers. If Uthoff can make those kind of passes on regular basis to setup Wood, Woody will be a double-double guy on a regular basis.

Woodie had a great game...however...much credit to Uthoff for making him open by forcing double teams...and getting the pass to the Wooded One...several Bunnies were executed today!

Teams continue to be puzzled about how to guard Uthoff...and rightly so.

One other thing, we've actually learned how to feed the post and Woody has been consistently rolling to the hoop. 2 years ago and even last year, he was rarely fed the ball in a position to score. No one really looked to get him involved. Now he has 2-3 of these a game and when executed perfectly, its a thing of beauty. Beginning to think this is the most complete Hawkeye team in my lifetime.

Those BJ, Marble, Horton, etc teams were pretty damn good BUT these guys are right there.

Fran has been blessed to have one or two incredibly hard workers as seniors every year, this class has 4 and maybe the hardest worker ever in Woody (never seen him give less than 100%). I think that has rubbed off on Pete bc i don't think he ends up being the player he is without the leadership of this Sr class and Whitey the season before (hell Cole, Gatens, May started it and everyones has learned from the examples set way back then).

It will be interesting to see how Pete fills that role this off season and who else steps up with him from the lower class ranks.

Puzzled? They're just flat out lost.

This. It cannot be underestimated the fact they are passing it to him. There were many time in the past I could have thrown a brick at the TV When they would not pass it to him.

Ummm...well...they didn't refuse to pass it in to him because they disliked him...ball went in...he brought the ball down...stripped away...ball went in...bunny was missed...ball went in...traveling. Now...Woodie has more space and more confidence...good for him.

I'm 45 but I didn't really start to understand what I was seeing until 91-92, well after those very talented Raveling recruits graduated. So it definitely wasn't a slight to those teams.
Good point. Now that Lackluster is gone, we're not having our best players transfer out of town year after year. Gstens, Cole, Marble, White and these 4 seniors have exemplified what it means to be a Hawkeye and have been leaders, if not vocally at least w/ their play. Hopefully Jok and maybe Jones, Wagner or Uhl can make that leap next season. I'll say it again, we are in a golden age for Iowa basketball.

Difficult to see a Golden Age when living in the moment...and the midst of it...but I agree. I am excited about the new players that haven't yet arrived...have not yet signed. Hearing a lot about the children of White Magic... I am excited to see how the boys play for dad. That, would be Golden indeed... I really like to see Iowa loaded with Iowa kids...but not exclusively.

Woody played another very good game against the biggest line up we're going to see. Each season with McC we've also seen at least one senior blow up with two 1st Team ABT last two years. Our seniors are playing their best ball. If Woody catches fire, like today, Hawks are looking at maybe 14 - 15 wins.

We close out 6-5 and tie for the second best record in 46 seasons. That's how to start a conference season.

The ceiling keeps raising based on the wins. Swept Purdue and MSU. Wow!

Good news is, Iowa HS hoops produces some pretty talented players that seem to know/see/play the game at a highly intelligent level. Mix that with other talent throughout the country and a coach that gets the most out of their players and you have yourself a really solid program.

With the proper players...the Franetic defense presented by Iowa tends to wear out and constantly confuse the other team.

Fun to see how Kriener and others will fit this style of play...

Woody had a fine game with the help of all his teammates. How much credit is Uthoff due for Woody's 10 rebounds and 5/6 shooting from the line? It could even be argued that his good work on the boards amounted to a few extra made shots by JU. Quid pro quo, Rev.

Tune...please note I began with "Woodie had a great game." Please also note the billions of times I have commented on how great Woodie has become as a free throw shooter...shooting over 80% from as hideous as he was...well, pretty impressive.

Thank you...

With Uthoff and Jok...both long range threats from 3...well it is open season under the basket this year. Lots more room for movement for the Big Wood...and less hands trying to grab the ball from him.

Not to mention Uhl, Baer, now Ellingson...or Sapp...hitting from long range.

It takes a lot of energy to guard this type of team for an entire game...it wore Purdue down physically and mentally.

When posting about Mike or Woody, and generally nobody else, you use the word "however" far too often. You know what I mean. Why is this?

No, I'm talking about when he would be wide open for 2-3 seconds w/ no chance of being stripped of the ball but he was ignored by MG, Sapp or whoever had the ball. The times that you are referring to is when they did get him the ball, they waited until he was covered, and then they passed him the ball. And then he would get stripped or his wide open lay up would be gone by then. Not anymore.

Hats off to Woody. It is nice to see him have a great senior season. He has taken a lot of abuse the past 3 years and keeps giving us his all.

I can easily live with that and tip my cap to him.

*White Jesus

Perhaps soon Fran will be walking on water, then...a name change is warranted.

Hopefully there will be no ascension event..."then his disciples saw White Jesus no more."

And, Jesus, seems not to have been white, at least not in terms of Iowa white...or Aaron White, white...nor Jokish...more a tweener...
