Buchanan has been very workmanlike all season.
I think he'll stay zeroed in and pay no attention to the team falling short.

Got lucky 2x earlier in the match to not give up a TD and then gets decked. Continuing our big match performances. 🙄
Just have to hope that was a peaked version of Byrd and that Ayala was looking ahead a bit. I do not think that match is indicative of the best version of Drake, so we'll see what Philly brings.
Other coaches scout and game plan for us. We gotta work harder and get better.
Buchanon isn't going to lose. He's a cool customer. "Workman like," is very apt. Kind of reminds me of CStar TBH. I'd love to see that one.
To make matters worse, Illinois is wrestling above seeds and making some noise this weekend. Hope we have the Raineys locked up.
What does that do for Drake's seed at nationals, i guess as long as doesn't drop to 4?

Can we not get Dan Gable to give clinics once a week for our guys during the summer? I have wondered this for years.
I don't see Ayala making the finals. But he certainly has a chance to make up for his lack of focus today. Hopefully he can get to the semis.
That is from having Ayala well scouted, learning from the last match. Byrd had solid positioning, no real danger of being taken down.

What are the current standings? I’m assuming Iowa is not in second and I’m beginning to worry we’re not in third either. That school that the Raney’s squared wouldn’t dare go to over Iowa that’s located to the east of us seems to be kicking our ****ing ass all over the place this weekend. This has not been a great showing for Iowa.
Maybe, but Drake is a well-known commodity. I think it's more Byrd coming in fired up because they're in Illinois and he lost the last match. We'll see.
The pin situation is unlikely to come up again. Byrd hit him with two low shots that he could've scored on except for time and going out of bounds. Seems to me Ayala should stay on his knee make Byrd close. Then he has to watch the toe breaks.

Drake is prone to brain fart matches. I get why people are freaking out in general, but Drake is not the problem.
Byrd isn't an unknown-commodity though. Nothing about their first match, or their careers, tells us that Drake was a heavy favorite. The ony thing shocking was the pin, but the result itself was not surprising imo.
I know this is the truth…but it sure as hell isn’t giving me any comfort right now!
