Was there lack of guys accepting roles on the team imo. It's what sidetracked us and it involves a lot of different moving parts. And Fran bears a lot of the responsibility either for not correctly identifying what roles guys should play, not holding them accountable for their identified roles, or just plain poor game management and putting guys in bad spots.
Gesell- take care of the ball, 7+ assists per game, pick your spots to score but pick then widely and efficiently because we only need 6-8 points. And at the end of the clock situations, the ball needs to find its way to Jok or Uthoff, not you attacking the rim.
Clemmons- take care of the ball, 10-12 points a game. You're the best slasher on this team and particularly good in the open court so look to attack. But you're biggest asset too this team is your ability to defend. Take pride in it and take whoever you're chosen to guard out of the game.
Jok- you're robin, uthoff is batman. Don't try to be batman. We don't need you to be a ball stopper on offense because you want 20 shots a game. Also, look to penetrate and distribute more. You draw attention when you put the ball on the floor but you're like a house with blinders when you do, you don't see anything but the basket. we need you to get 18-20+ a game but we need you to get them in the flow of the game by taking efficient shots, not volume shots.
Uthoff- be batman. Stop disappearing in games. You have the full arsenal, good deep shooting ability, can slash to the basket, and you have a good back to the basket post game. It's inexcusable for you to disappear in games with your skill set. STOP fading away on your shots. Take a cue from Aaron White 2015, find an aggressive streak, and attack the basket with ruthless aggression. This should be your NBA audition starting Friday. Get on the boards, play great defense, and showcase your whole skill set but do it with toughness and aggression.
Woody- as one of the primary vocal leaders of this team, you need to stay positive and lead. You do done great things for a kid your size the way you fight on the boards and the way you get on the floor. That has to continue and if you got more, we need it. Every game should look like the Ohio state game where by the end you can barely drag yourself from one end to the other because of the effort you're putting into it. You're a senior. Last hoorah. Make every game that way. We need 10 points and 10+ rebound out of you which means you need to be efficient in your post game and put back attempts. Dunk the damn ball! And you gotta get after it on the boards.
Baer- do what you do but shoot with confidence. That's all I got for you young man.
Wagner- energy energy energy, defense defense defense. We need your energy and your ability to guard off the bench. When you bring it, we look very different as a team. When you question or look dazed and confused, we struggle. Can't have that. A bad mistake made at maximum effort level is better than making no decision and sometimes better than making s good decision without the right effort level.
Uhl- you are not batman or robin or any other super hero. Take a massive cue from Baer. Just play within yourself. When you're a ball stopper on the court, which is the majority of the time, we are a HORRIBLE basketball team. You're not good enough for that at this point. If you have an open in the flow 3, knock it down. But don't force it. If you have a 1v1 on the arc and can drive, do it but see the court. Just like Jok, you can be just as effective distributing off of penetration. Just play smart. And defensively and rebounding? The next time you guard someone or box someone out for a board will be the first time you've done it all year. If you can't guard anyone and if you won't box out, you can't play. Period. It needs fixed and quick if we're gonna win any games in this tournament.
