So why has this happened? I refuse to believe that Iowa has ran into a buzzsaw two years in a row. Our round of 32 games under Fran have not even been competitive? Is it coaching? Lack of scouting? Lack of talent? What is it? It would be nice if Iowa can make a game of these and a run to the Sweet 16.

It's not like we have ran into slouches in this round. Gonzaga was practically on their home court. This wasn't much different. Iowa played two very good teams in the second round.

We've played good teams all damn year. Don't give me this garbage. We played Michigan state, Purdue, Indiana twice and played Maryland Iowa state Wichita State Notre dame etc etc etc etc. Villanova is a good team but we've played tons of them so that excuse doesn't hold water. We got outplayed and outclassed in every facet. The lack of energy and enthusiasm is what truly pisses me off. Seen it again and again over the last 3 years and it's ridiculous. I'm not gonna point fingers because I don't know if it's Fran or if it's the players or some combination of the two, but it's inexcusable. 4 seniors in the NCAA tournament, lose your career is over, and we get trainwrecked. It's embarrassing and it's inexcusable.

Especially watching other seniors in this tournament leaving everything on the floor. I want to say more but I'd probably get banned for questioning certain players effort today.

I think we just lack enough overall talent and athleticism to simply beat better teams when we do not play well and the other team does.

With this team it's all about comfort level and when teams make these guys uncomfortable then it unravels. Nova had a lot of reasons and pressure to play well and I tip my cap to them go doing just that. If they happened to miss the wide open looks then we make it a game.

Recruiting in both football and basketball is always a major concern at Iowa. It's the difference in getting over the top. We get a lot of what we have but at some point it comes down to raw talent to make plays when everything is breaking down.

It all comes down to physicality. This team has great length aka are soft. Length in college basketball is overrated. Physicality is everything. Give me 6'9" and physical over 7' and soft any day of the week.

If you'd ask me to my money on any senior in the tournament I would have said Valentine and look what happened there.. A lot of the tournament is luck!

Go to wallgreens, buy some midol and finish the bottle. These SRs helped bring this program from the dumps. Get over it.

Agreed 100%. And mucking findboggling.

With the exception of a pair of 3-4 weeks here and there (this year in January and last year at the end of the regular season), this has been a very average group. There have been plenty of blowouts along the way. Two of the main players on this team were top 100 flops. There's just not enough quality there. If you look at the scope of the last 4 months, this was an accurate seed and end result that fairly reflects the talent we have on the roster. The fact that we've had some aberrations and played above our talent level during a couple stretches of the last 2 years is good coaching. Of course, coach has to recruit the players, and if we want to take the next step, we need better players.

The big 10 was over rated this year as you saw with MSU and Purdue going out in round 1. After today there could only be 1 Big Ten team left.

Last two years Iowa ran into 2 really good teams. Gonzaga and Nova are tier 1 teams in college bball. Iowa is boarder line tier 2/3 right now. We play some good games and win some games, but our overall team is not on the level of those teams. Hopefully Fran can bring in some better talent and push us up into the top tier.

It seems to me they quit playing as the season goes along. And I don't mean quit in a bad sense. But as CBS pointed out, they tend to play with less competitive spirit. I don't know if it's because they've got worn down or what. Even with the week off in February it didn't seem to help any.

Having not read any of your idiotic posts or responses. The Hawks missed 2 or 3 roll out baskets early. ' Nova made all of their early roll out easy bunnies and every 3 from deep. The game has become about making some shots... Iowa missed out and lost.

The Hawks never quit playing. They did get frustrated and crazy. This happens when you are behind... big time time and doing your best to come back....

While I'm not happy with how the season ended, oh what might have been. 2011 days hi. We've gone from back to back 20 loss seasons to 3 straight NCAA tourney appearances and 2 straight 1st round wins.

Guardplay. CBB is a guard's game and Iowa needs better guards imo.
Cannot be stated enough. Gaurds carry college teams. It's nice to have a Utoff and Jok, but if you don't have someone to blow past the front line, it will be tough.

Totally Agree, At this level its split seconds in quickness to close on three pointers, muscle up inside, and take people off the dribble when the defense makes a mistake. Just split second differences in decisions, and quickness makes all the difference. The value of guards in NCAA play and all that goes with it athletically.

Let's keep it real here folks. This was Fran's big experiment that we have been waiting 4 years for and they got demolished in every phase of the game. A senior-laden veteran team as we have heard 10,000 times. Lose to Villanova OK, no shame there. Get absolutely run off the court and put up no fight, pathetic. If not for Baer, we may have been down 45 in the first half.

I've read this a billion times on this board. Mathematically sports is not about luck . . . it's about will, stamina and talent. Go back to playing with dolls.

It really helps when you have the athletic ability to get within 2 feet of the basket and get wide open shots from outside

Iowa, offensively, is playing 2 or 3 against 5 most of the time. Jok and Uthoff are special players imo, but no one else is even a half way consistent threat to score.

A center that could be counted on to finish and a point guard that can score and teams would have a lot more to worry about. I would trade some defense for some scoring any day of the week.

Look at isu. Everyone gives them crap about no defense, but they have a lot of guys that can create, score, and finish high percentage shots.

This... the group of seniors came to a program, VERY much in question. And contributed to a gradual improvement and raising of expectations.

All about perspective. 4 years ago, we would have sold our soul to just consistently make the tourney. Now we are pissed that we don't make the sweet sixteen. Fran will get us there, just takes time. Future is STRONG

THANKS SENIORS

Maryland figured out that if you stop Uthoff, you beat Iowa. Since then, it's taken coaches about 10 minutes of scouting to figure out a game plan against us. What's our record been since then?
