The Kansas State gal alone would have been enough to make this team a legitimate final 4 team again
Money can only be a fraction of the motivating factor, why are we not selling them on exposure?Supposedly the money just wasn't there
so out of 1000 players in portal there was no one that could rebound or play interior defense. Gotcha. Please review the players in the portal and let us know who you think Bluder should have magically found and paid $300k for.
You keep spouting the same nonsense. We were the number 2 team in the country going into the game today. 1 team better. That’s it. If we had gotten Morrow from DePaul, would we be 1 right now? Would we be favored over S Carolina? You make it sound so easy for some local company to drop 200K or so and then guarantee that player even wants to come to Iowa. We said we wanted a big. They didn’t want to come to Iowa City. Look at our roster and tell me if you notice anything? Maybe girls of color don’t want to come here or aren’t comfortable. The LSu game was polarizing unfortunately and probably not in a good way for us. Blame Bluder if it makes you feel better. That’s a defeatist attitude. This is Iowa. There are never any Iowa sports teams (excluding wrestling) that are literally one player away from competing for a national title. That’s where Iowa women’s basketball was because of Caitlin Clark this past offseason. It just didn’t happen. Iowa probably won’t be in this spot ever again.
Stiffs? Stuelke won 6th Woman of the year as a freaking true freshman. She's also had to deal with injuries a bit this year. The girl can play. Goodman and O'Grady have been quality backups this year as well.Say we approached the top 2-3 portal 5’s with our NIL offer & none of them wanted to come because it wasn’t enough or they sided with Joe Camel.
Fine…..but what about available 5’s #4-20? I don’t know exact numbers in the portal, but it’s a safe bet that at least that many were available who were decent upgrades from our current stiffs. And you don’t think anyone from that 2nd tier wanted to play on national TV, with packed arenas, & CC feeding them?? I doubt any outside the top 2-3 got bigger bags anywhere else either.
I think it’s most likely our coaches only thought it was worth pursuing the top few & it wasn’t worth upsetting team chemistry by bringing in someone from that next tier. If that’s correct, it was a mistake because we ain’t winning it all with our current post players.
we had no money to offer. our only hope was a quality center would want to come based on having the best interior coach around and the best interior post passer…….we got no takers so we had to go with what we already had.Say we approached the top 2-3 portal 5’s with our NIL offer & none of them wanted to come because it wasn’t enough or they sided with Joe Camel.

Recognize that 1) that player for OSU is pretty good and 2) it's hard to play defense effectively when all your bigs are battling foul trouble all game long, in what was (both ways), a very poorly officiated game.
Good lord people, they're 18-2, with both losses coming to top 15-20 teams (and also winning the rematch against KSU a couple weeks later). It's not like they went and lost to the last place team in the conference.
I'll admit I'd have liked to have landed a post player after last season, but it didn't work out. Whether that was due to lack of interest, NIL issues or what, I don't know. What I do know is that this squad is a top 5 team nearing the end of January with an excellent chance at a 1 seed. What happens beyond that in the tournament, who knows.
ISU has a transfer big, Natabou that would have helped. Alternatively could have focused on a big freshman.Christ AGAIN, WHO were they supposed to get? The only quality big in the portal was Betts, and she had ZERO interest in Iowa. Supposedly she wouldn't even talk with the swarm guys. Why must we persist in this BS?
Get a better coach then who girls will want to play for.So who should she have pursued that would have been interested in coming to Iowa? Betts and Morrow made clear they had no interest in Iowa. Who else was out there that might have said yes to Iowa?
You need to know some facts before making that ridiculous post. The players love Lisa! They have fun, actually like each other and if you were paying attention you would see the family atmosphere.Get a better coach then who girls will want to play for.
You already said it yourself. "I don't know the numbers". Well Lisa did and there wasn't anyone else they thought better then what they had. And yet here we are with "fans" saying they know better. Again, WHO was she supposed to drag to Iowa?Say we approached the top 2-3 portal 5’s with our NIL offer & none of them wanted to come because it wasn’t enough or they sided with Joe Camel.

1000? Transfers? In the mens game YES. Not the womens......????so out of 1000 players in portal there was no one that could rebound or play interior defense. Gotcha.
Stop with the “we” had no money to offer. The Swarm may not have, I’m not sure. But for the millionth time, NIL money doesn’t need to go through the Swarm.we had no money to offer. our only hope was a quality center would want to come based on having the best interior coach around and the best interior post passer…….we got no takers so we had to go with what we already had.

Absolutely. Just like with Kirk and football. If you don’t like Brian Ferentz, it’s not your call and it’s ok to shut up about it. Brian should be back. How about Lisa is the coach and if you don't like how she recruits you go play in the traffic. It's not you call and it is ok to shut up about it. Watch the game and enjoy it or shut up and go away. There you have two choices.
And she supposedly got 100K to go to LSU. And they were the returning natty champs. And they have a team besides Van Lith that all looks like her. But just go find some company that wants to pay her 150K. It’s simple right? If we had gotten Morrow from DePaul, we’d be a legitimate final four/national title threat. Absolutely.
Bro. Keep burying yourself in whatever narrative you want. It’s really that simple. And she supposedly got 100K to go to LSU. And they were the returning natty champs. And they have a team besides Van Lith that all looks like her. But just go find some company that wants to pay her 150K. It’s simple right?
Stuelke’s a solid player…..but she’s not a 5 & doesn’t have the size to defend bigger posts or dominate with her back to the basket.Stiffs? Stuelke won 6th Woman of the year as a freaking true freshman. She's also had to deal with injuries a bit this year. The girl can play. I don’t need to know the exact numbers…..but I guarantee there were more than just the top 2-3 posts in the portal that would be significant upgrades over our current 5’s. AND that at least some of them would seriously consider playing in front of packed arenas for a team that just made the finals. You already said it yourself. "I don't know the numbers". Well Lisa did and there wasn't anyone else they thought better then what they had. And yet here we are with "fans" saying they know better. Again, WHO was she supposed to drag to Iowa?
She's two inches taller then the girl for OSU who had 33 and 12. The refs let her bull doze her way to the basket all day. If they hadn't we probably win by 10 and we're not having these conversations today. If anything I think AOG should have seen more playing time. She looked more up to the task then Goodman.Stuelke’s a solid player…..but she’s not a 5 & doesn’t have the size to defend bigger posts or dominate with her back to the basket.
To anyone that knows ball….it was obvious long before the OSU game that our true 5’s will struggle against good bigs. Luckily the BT is down this year, but better teams with good posts await in the tourney.
Great. You know the players, (even though you don't), and obviously Bluder did not know of said players who would have been upgrades over our current roster. You do realize that outside the top players in most of these portals, there in the portal quite often because they AREN'T playing for the team they are on currently right? Even if its bumf--- eastern state or wherever.......I don’t need to know the exact numbers…..but I guarantee there were more than just the top 2-3 posts in the portal that would be significant upgrades over our current 5’s. AND that at least some of them would seriously consider playing in front of packed arenas for a team that just made the finals.
Except she was approached and wouldn't even talk to Iowa people. Maybe we should have hogtied her and dragged her from Chicago back to Iowa City.....If we had gotten Morrow from DePaul, we’d be a legitimate final four/national title threat. Absolutely.

You’re exactly right. It is that simple. It’s why she’s at LSU.Bro. Keep burying yourself in whatever narrative you want. It’s really that simple.
It’s really that simple for someone to go out and find someone to pay her 100k plus in NIL to come to iowa. It wasn’t done. Ergo, Iowa will have an uphill battle to make the final four again. You’re exactly right. It is that simple. It’s why she’s at LSU.

LIsa didn't need to hit the portal for a big until we lost today. Par for the course here.
Again Barta would have zero, absolutely zero control over this. Sure he can facilitate if he wanted and promote NIL. But blaming Barta for putting up barriers, ignored what actually could be done.Especially when Barta was attempting to put up as many barriers between donors and NIL as possible, no it really isn’t that simple.
Not to mention the player also has to want to come to Iowa.
Ironically, in pre-NIL era I think getting a ost player to transfer to Iowa would have been simpler.
not sure what your point here is. NIL money can come from anywhere. Can be from a group connected to provide it or from an individual or company. by rule the money is to be for services provided or the likeness/advertising of the athlete. everyone knows, however, that this is most often not the case. in the case of women’s basketball there was no money from the swarm as you indicate but there were also no companies or individuals stepping up to provide funds, which is what I stated. so unless you know that there actually was money available not sure what your argument is. my statement stands, “there was no money directed to or for the women’s basketball program”.Stop with the “we” had no money to offer. The Swarm may not have, I’m not sure. But for the millionth time, NIL money doesn’t need to go through the Swarm.
Umm…KState on line 3. Yes, we got the rematch but that showed where we are massively vulnerable
She did actually. No consistent post presence has been a glaring weakness on both end of the court. Stuelke is a forward trying to play the post. We’ve gotten by but we havent played many ranked opponents and we’ve now lost to two of them. We won’t last long in the tournament this year.
Again Barta would have zero, absolutely zero control over this. Sure he can facilitate if he wanted and promote NIL. But blaming Barta for putting up barriers, ignored what actually could be done.
I guarantee, absolutely guarantee you, that Hy Vee or Casey’s or any moderately big Iowa company would have opened the checkbook for 150k, if they were asked. You’re arguing like there were big donors or companies just standing there with blank checks and Bluder said no thanks.
And Barta absolutely had some control over this. He consistently made it clear that he viewed NIL as competition for the donors, per Brad had zero contact with the Swarm, and refused every request to open communications between the donors and the collective. That’s the primary way to funnel NIL money between donors and players.
Holy shit….literally if you needed a message for a poster board highlighting the stupidity of message boards and the negative “20” I like to call them here it is…
We lost on the road in overtime to a ranked conference rival. Our 2nd and 3rd best player were handcuffed with fouls (I’m not a blame the fouls guy usually) and although poorly officiated both ways. It really effed us that they let the tOSU girl run people over in the lane and then called Kate Martin for 2 fouls in 60 seconds for a highly questionable charge and then a foul in the lane where I’m not sure she touched her…WTF?!
We were winning the whole f-ing game and now suddenly we can’t win it all?! Holy shit are some of you guys freaking dumb!!!
We have played 6-6 Ayoka Lee and won, 6-5 Liz Kilter and won and 6-4 Mackenzie Holmes and won…3 of the 5 best centers in college!
I’ve said this before but I’m doing it again… Some of you buffoons think you’re “enlightened fans” but there are 20% of the messageboard population, that whine & ****ing cry about bad coaching every time their team loses….
EVERY FAN BASE….hell Purdues fan base has wanted Painter gone for 10 years and he is probably the best coach in the big 10
Six or seven years ago I was perusing their board after they beat Michigan State by like 67–66. One of their haters said I think this is the best game painters ever coached… I asked him really? one missed free-throw, one questionable foul, one ball thrown out of bounds, and they lose and this is somehow miraculously, the best game he has coached… Guess what if they lost it would’ve been one of the worst….doh!!
I’m extremely thankful I don’t take it personally as you cats and I’m not nearly as dumb….you shouldn’t be slowed on the Internet. You make the rest of us look stupid.
