BOYLE TO GRADUATE, DEPART IOWA FOOTBALL PROGRAM

IOWA CITY, Iowa - - University of Iowa football student-athlete Ryan Boyle will earn his bachelor’s degree in May and transfer from the Hawkeye program. The announcement was made Friday by head football coach Kirk Ferentz.

“Ryan is a hard worker, a good teammate, and a good student," said Ferentz. "We wish Ryan academic and athletic success in the future."

Boyle is a native of West Des Moines, Iowa, and a graduate of Dowling Catholic High School. He played both quarterback and wide receiver during his Iowa career.

Not surprised, he wants a shot at QB at a lower level and given 2 more years of Big Nate as a stater and Petras and Mansell I'd say it will be more than tough to see field as a signal caller.

Best of Luck to you Ryan

I always thought he was going to be a Safety when they recruited and signed him. Apparently he only wanted to be a QB.

Thanks for your contribution to the team Ryan. Not. Another guy who could have been a part of the is great project we are building, but he just quits on the team. Wow. Not happy with his lack of royalty to the team. good riddance.

Why harbor hard feelings towards a guy who got his degree and was willing to switch positions to add depth? Seems like a decent teammate to me.

What this underscores, to me, is that it is really hard to find a pro-style quarterback who can also run well. Boyle was a great HS quarterback because he could really run. But he (apparently) was not a major college passer. I hope he finds a spot where he gets to play, and I hope that he is successful.

What would you expect him to do? If your dream is to play football in the NFL, you can't get there with zero CFB playing experience. His switch to WR didn't pan out, and with another hotshot QB coming in, he could see the writing on the wall.

Most of your posts offer some good quality information. But just like your "out of nowhere" post on Breathard a couple weeks ago once in a while you post something that makes you think "where the hell did THAT come from!" How stupid can you be. In my opinion he gave it a pretty good shot. Didn't walk out after 1, 2, or even 3 years of watching from the sidelines. He was a "royal" teammate.

Someone explain how recruiting walkons like we are this year is building a great project? What a joke. Like fishing for minnows instead of bass.

What does it hurt? If they produce, mores the better. If they don't, it hasn't cost you one of your 85 scholorships. You've seen the pictures here from the Patriots practice with three former Iowa players right? You realize that two of those three were walk ons?

Thank you Mr. Boyle for your contribution to the Iowa football program--a team is made of individuals who all play a part of the effort--you played a significant part in a growing program

good luck in your next adventure !!!

Go Hawks

No I think YOU are the one that needs to do the explaining. What harm is possibly done. The staff is not out there wasting valuable time “recruiting” these kids. In many instances these kids are “borderline” D1 players that after some evaluation the staff feels is not “worthy” of a scholarship offer but “welcome” to walk on. Careful with your reply, I’m a former walk on that earned 2 letters. I gave the University of Iowa a lot of hard work, sweat, pain, and injuries on my own dime.

Lol, OMG you just jumped to the top of the list.

You can't be serious, are you? If so you deserve a big

Hell of a football program in Maryville. If he can win the starting job there, he'll enjoy some success. NWMS is a D2 final four team almost every year.

Yep Maryville is a powerhouse, they have won several titles. I'm only 45 miles from there actually. I think it's cool and will be following his career down here.

No problem with walkons. Everyone has some. Yes some are playing this weekend. Good for them. I hope it all works out for KF.

Not to be combative but Dallas Clark was a walk on you never know who will break through

Then why would you make a moronic statement like “what a joke. Like fishing for minnows instead of bass”? “I hope it all works out for KF”? What is to “ work out”? If a walk on rises to stardom great, if he quits the team, no big deal either.
