There were a number of fans on here early in the year and most of last year saying very negative things about Brady. The usual "waste of scholarship " and "he's a D3 player at best " or statements of that nature.

Now, I'm not here to say I predicted he would be a great player, etc but I was smart enough to keep my mouth shut. I'm not all that bright but if I can figure out that just because a player struggles over a period of time doesn't mean they can't play....most everybody on here should be able to figure it out.

I hate to think what would have happened if we didn't have Brady these last two games.

Brady plays smart, is not a defensive liability and is a team player who passes the ball well and doesn't take stupid shots.

He is also an excellent shooter when he has an open shot. Fran knew what he was doing when he recruited him.

I'll eat that crow sandwich as I saw Brady as another Josh Olgesby (good in practice / bad in game). Brady's ball handling is a bit better than last year but what Brady does in the catch and shoot is so much better. Confidence. Brady's defense is not as good as Moss' defense but Brady is the guy you want on the free throw line or a three point shot.

Ellingson has a couple of nice assists tonight, but he went back to not shooting / not getting open.

The knock on Ellingson is that he doesn't shoot enough. Almost a third of his 3 pt att on the season have come in two games. That is a crazy number for someone shooting over 50% this far into the season.

isn't it amazing how players get better as they get older (experienced) ..

Well to the OP I've posted on and off these boards for a solid 15 or 16 years & the same guys that are boorish Over the top critics are the same ones on both boards year after year after year. I happen to know Brady's dad personally awesome dude and Brady is a hell of a kid and quite frankly I have zero and I mean absolutely zero respect for anybody that gets on a message board & calls anybody a waste of anything ever ! I'm not a big -eye for an eye retribution Guy but quite frankly those people should lose their jobs & their kids should be bullied and intimidated relentlessly and then they might think differently about what they said on an anonymous message board !

People have zero accountability for their actions and although I'll admit I antagonize people on these message boards for sport it's begun to be a lot more personal for me when I realize how crappy it really is the way people talk about coaches and players. If anyone talked about them like that to the point they called their family their children their wives themselves awful and lousy and rotten at what they do quite frankly theyd be in a mental asylum. It truly is sh#%# all the way around and they're all too damn dumb to know it.

That's why it would do them good to have it happen back to them, that's The only way some people learn ?!

It's really hard to argue when someone gladly eats crow. They are right both ways when Brady or whoever has a bad game or when they have a good game. If they have a good game they are happy......if they have a bad game ..told you so. Hmmm

I'd be okay with a handful of idiots bashing my son if it meant that he logged significant minutes for the Hawkeyes.

I'm sure Ellingson's dad is a great guy and Brady seems like a good young man. I really don't feel bad for him because a few turds bash his boy on a message board. I really don't, sorry.

Well me either but I like to make it real for people so they feel the sting of how rotten they are. And please don't tell me you guys don't feel it I've been there personally when you got called out and the look they have is really priceless .

some people just cant help themselves from going way overboard in their opinions about players...including BE. These people don't give incoming young recruits the benefit of getting better or the benefit of doubt.

They make it a definite...like Brady Ellingson is no better than a D3 talent. But we also should understand we do have some posters who are trolls..they are not Iowa fans...they are only here to ruffle feathers.

In the end..I'm happy BE is only a sophomore cause he is going to help us win games.

The defense, such as it was, stayed keyed on Ellingson much of the time tonight. Given the depth of young inside talent a great shooter, like Kyle McC, keeps one defender from cheating on every offensive trip.

Ellingson has a beautiful shot. He should be prepared to shoot every time he get's the ball. Plus tonight he had some nice penetration and good all around floor play. Definitely improving and contributing.

...I understand what you are saying but how does that saying go..."whats good for the goose ....

if a poster wants to dish it out & bash a player..then they should also feel the sting... the sting is you gave up on the player ... you didn't give the player the benefit of the doubt...

BE didn't need to prove a thing & he deserved the opportunity to work on his game, get better & be ready when the chance to play more came around.

Defenders are starting to tighten up on Ellingson on the perimeter. I would like to see him drive to the hoop more often to draw fouls. He is money (18-18) on FTs and IMO he could easily add another 3-4 points per game from the line at 20mpg.

I am one not eating crow i knew his was going to be a nice player after seeing him almost every game

He is a playmaker good floor game and nice shooting and plays defense with urgency

Do you.folks actually watch.the games when.he is in?

I actually think Ellingson should be a Starter.
he reminds me an awful lot of Matt Gatens... who had one of the greatest Senior Seasons I've ever witnessed in my life.

He's not going to force up shots if he's not open. That's just who he is. He's a great role player.

Brady's dad told me last year the coaches told him if he played great defense he would play and although he's not an elite level athlete he gives a monster effort every time he's on the floor. His shooting is secondary, now who knows what will unfold as he progresses to a senior but he's doing exactly what the coaches want him to do!!

Great post and i diffently agree

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Let's not get carried away.

However, can you imagine gatens senior year with this supporting cast that Brady has? Yikes.

come on !
are you going to tell me he doesn't remind you an awful lot like a young Matt Gatens?
look at his face..... look into his eyes.... he might be a tad meaner than Matt Gatens.

he's as tough as anybody on the floor... and the man does not miss.

I think he means Brady has a lot of weapons around him versus Matty Fresh

I don't know about taking it to the rack, but his drive and dishes to Pemsl tonight were things of beauty. Those comparing him to Oglesby (no offense to JO, who was a solid role player contrary to popular belief) are off base
