Brady Ellingson

come on !
are you going to tell me he doesn't remind you an awful lot like a young Matt Gatens?
look at his face..... look into his eyes.... he might be a tad meaner than Matt Gatens.

he's as tough as anybody on the floor... and the man does not miss.
I've never been down on Brady, but I'm not going overboard the other way either. This week we've seen him and the young hawks look solid against an OSU team disinterested in playing defense, and a Rutgers team that couldn't get out of its on way tonight. I hope he continues to play solid minutes and contributes to many Iowa victories. I'll be more impressed when those shots are falling in games against the better teams in the league, when were playing them with a conference title on the line. Really hope we all get to see that scenario unfold.

What the heck gave you the impression we were going overboard? He played a good last 2 games the way we knew he could how is that going overboard my friend?

Ellingson reminding you of Gatens or even calling him a starter after two solid games against the two worst teams in the league is more than enough to give anyone the impression that you're going overboard.

If Ellingson turns out to be half the player Gatens was, I'd be happy. That's not a knock on Ellingson, it's a compliment to Gatens.

To the OP You do realize they played Rutgers correct? I wish nothing but great things for all the Hawk players but let's not get carried away. The last couple of games however do show what chemistry and TEAM play means. I hope the recent hard play continues and they have a great second half of the season.

I'm going to get carried... and I don't care...

I believe this team is going all the way and winning the National Championship this season.

I don't think they lose another game all season.

these men are on a roll !

you people that disagree.... go ahead and live your life of misery and despair.
I'm not like you.

First, I've enjoyed Brady's play this week as much as anybody. Not only making shots, but great passing. Actually appeared like once were in the half court set, Brady could be that back up distributor we need when JBO is out.
At the same time we weren't playing the top quality teams in pressure packed games. Before last week Brady was struggling to connect on those shots. I thought that quotes like,'Man does not miss", Will have a great career", Reminds me of Gatens", were a little over the top. This board is so bipolar between wins and losses.
I do think Brady gives consistent effort. I think he can be one of the leaders going forward on this young team. Only time will tell.

There were a number of fans on here early in the year and most of last year saying very negative things about Brady. The usual "waste of scholarship " and "he's a D3 player at best " or statements of that nature.

Now, I'm not here to say I predicted he would be a great player, etc but I was smart enough to keep my mouth shut. I'm not all that bright but if I can figure out that just because a player struggles over a period of time doesn't mean they can't play....most everybody on here should be able to figure it out.

I hate to think what would have happened if we didn't have Brady these last two games.
glad to see him play well, but it ohio st who could not have guarded you or me and rutgers, stiill not sure he will help us that much in the long run.

Well to the OP I've posted on and off these boards for a solid 15 or 16 years & the same guys that are boorish Over the top critics are the same ones on both boards year after year after year. I happen to know Brady's dad personally awesome dude and Brady is a hell of a kid and quite frankly I have zero and I mean absolutely zero respect for anybody that gets on a message board & calls anybody a waste of anything ever ! I'm not a big -eye for an eye retribution Guy but quite frankly those people should lose their jobs & their kids should be bullied and intimidated relentlessly and then they might think differently about what they said on an anonymous message board !

People have zero accountability for their actions and although I'll admit I antagonize people on these message boards for sport it's begun to be a lot more personal for me when I realize how crappy it really is the way people talk about coaches and players. If anyone talked about them like that to the point they called their family their children their wives themselves awful and lousy and rotten at what they do quite frankly theyd be in a mental asylum. It truly is sh#%# all the way around and they're all too damn dumb to know it.

That's why it would do them good to have it happen back to them, that's The only way some people learn ?!
dont remember anyone calling him a waste, they said he was a waste of a scholarship, quite a bit of difference.

Here I fixed it for you..."it was Ohio St who would make me look like the petty brat that I am and only lost to #6 UVA by 2, #2 UCLA by 7, #20 PU by 1 and #17 Maryland by 6....." :)

I'm well aware that they played Rutgers....a team that almost beat us on our home court with Pete in the lineup. A team that took league leading Wisconsin to the wire before losing in overtime. A team that is long and athletic and usually plays good defense.

As I said in the post I'm not saying he's a great player....but did make the case that he's a valuable team member.

Brady has improved dramatically from last year, as well he should have. His defense is getting much better and his passing has really improved. I would actually like him to look for his shot a little more often. All of our guards need to be productive when they are in the game and Brady has been just that. I hope he closes out this year like he has the last 2 games. Last year he was not a huge asset, this year he is. If he keeps improving, we will be very sorry when he graduates.

Ellingson's biggest problems against the better opponents wasn't that he was would shoot and miss, he wouldn't shoot no matter how open. That kid is a shooter, he was recruited as a shooter and he needs to shoot.

Once Brady starts reliably knocking down threes against all types of opponents the entire floor will open for everyone else. Doubling the post seems quite problematic if Ellingson, Jok and Bohannon are on the floor at the same time.

I pretty much agree with what you say but, I wonder if Brady was hesitant because of the treatment Josh Oglsby received? If Brady has an off night shooting he gets hammered by the clueless.

I see Brady as the kind of role player that every successful team needs. There are going to be nights he drops 15-20 points because the opposing team is playing us light on the arc. Other nights agaibst bigger teams with big guards he probably won't play as much. We need to be able to win against both kinds of teams

HawkCentral's beat writer had this to say:

Ellingson back-to-back games now with 5 assists and no turnovers. He is becoming so much more than just a role player

Ellingson may not play 25 min per game the remainder of the year (he wont) but one thing with Fran...if you are a reserve & you play the way he has recently..you will be rewarded. There isn't a player on this team that would not agree that BE deserved the 25 yesterday.

He also adds to the free throw shooting capability in crunch time..Jok (92%) JBo (88%) Moss (81%) & now BE (100%) is a pretty good 4some. At least in 'auto foul' time under 30 secs when we have a lead...these 4 are pretty good & gives Fran the option to play either Baer or Uhl as the 5th.

I agree that BE is becoming a good role player for us. His weakness has been the physical athletic guards. It will be interesting to see how he does this week as he will see those in spades and Fran is likely to give him good minutes, with his relative experience and the way he has been playing, in these road games.

Maybe Ellingson has worked on getting his 3pt release off quicker and with a hand in his face? I wasn't sold on calling his turnaround after bottom feeders OSU and Rutgers, but after Nebraska game I have to give him credit...he's making nice passes and hitting his shots.

I think you're absolutely right that his release is much quicker than it used to be.

I'm more than happy to eat crow regarding Ellingson. I've always been real critical of him over the last couple of seasons. I'm happy to say I'm wrong. The dude has improved immensely, and is now a critical part of this team.

I have been really impressed with his passing lately. Saw somewhere he has 1 turnover in his last 10 games. He is shooting more often and looks confident doing it
