Brock Harding

The current starting lineup isn’t going to fly in the big ten. Start Brock. Tony slides to the two. Payton, Freeman, and Krikke. It’s too easy so obviously won’t do that.
Yeah I like Brock too. But let’s be real, he absolutely is going to have trouble defending starting pg in big ten. It doesn’t matter for this season but not all experience is positive for development if he is physically out matched. I would rather show he does starting but I see the argument for slowing someone his size into minutes isn’t a terrible idea either. Qbs thrown into fire with in bad teams suffer development sometimes, I could see the same for point guards.

Brock is already clearly a better defender than jbo and he started for 6 years.

Big fan of this Freshman class. Each one brings a different positive to the program. Hope they are allowed to develop and not stress about being jerked and sat if there’s a minor mistake on court 2 minutes into their stint.

Bowen has made a big step forward from last year, in part because he transformed his body. Needs to look for his outside shot more and shoot in rhythm. He doesn't make mistakes, why is a positive, but maybe should be a little more aggressive on offense. Decent defender, which makes him pretty good on this team.
Does he make the other players better when he's on the court? Not a game changer in my opinion.

Well he's averaging the same amount of assists as Harding and less TOs.

Obviously Harding is a better passer but Bowen is not bad and he drives the ball deeper so when he does kick it to shooters they tend to be wide open and he's the only guy on the roster who consistently does that.

So to answer your question yes.

What are you talking about. He's playing the freshmen more than he has ever done in the past. He's moved Owen into the starting lineup. Grow up. My God, what did the Mccaffrey family ever do to you? I know you believe you are the guru of basketball coaches, but you aren't paid the big bucks to make the decisions. Your posts sound like a five-year-old whining about not being able to eat cake for breakfast every morning.
Grow up? How about shut up dolt. Panties in a bundle as usual. Ignore coming your way dumbass. I have nothing from you I want to hear except goodbye.

What a fool.

Interesting comparison and I think what you say about QBs is true, but I simply think basketball is different. I’ve never seen anyone not get better by playing more. And I think Brock has enough confidence that it won’t be an issue. So far, I’ve not seen him struggle in defending. Not saying he’s great, but he’s not being abused.

I guess we should just get used to every topic being turned into an anti-McCaffery post from now on. That surely doesn't get old!
What gets old is Fran's fake tantrums. And yes, some of that crap is fabricated. Typically happens when we are way down and Fran has nothing to lose. But that look gets old. What get's old is Patrick's REALLY slow drive down the lane and not rebounding. What gets old is getting absolutely throttled by Purdue and making zero adjustments to ISU and getting completely drilled again. I would expect a coach to make coaching adjustments at the very least. Glad he is starting Owen now. Seemed like an obvious move that he waited awhile on.

Oh well.....NIT at best this year most likely so now is a good time to build for the future. I DO believe that he is bringing in solid talent. 2 or 3 years we could have some really good teams.

Did you see the Oklahoma game? He was torched.

He has the best assist/turnover ratio in the country, so he is doing something right. I agree Brock is more creative, but I think they both can play an important role on the team going forward. Dix is also a very good all-round guard, but he is much more a wing, who could also play 3.

Good players. Same coaching philosophy.

You got the first part right, have you seen Brock play for the last 4 years? I bet not!
He was a great HS guard. I've seen him up close in San Diego & he was not impressive in that tourney. He's had one great game & flashes potential. I am hoping he progresses and am cautiously optimistic he will continue to improve. Seems a little cocky, but this team needs some swagger if earned.

It seems there are more than a few new posters from the QC that sniff his jock on here. Just sayin....

If you’ve watched him and don’t understand he is different from all the guards we’ve had I don’t know what to tell you.
I will take him over everyone on our team bringing the ball against pressure and defending out front 1-1. He’s our best passer by a mile and one of our better shooters.
Will he make some head scratching plays. Yes. He just needs game reps.
So he had a rough game in the first 8 of the year as a freshman. Shocking. In a game where pretty much everyone stunk. Wow.

I said he has talent & hope he develops further. His one great game came against a subpar team with a losing record in a blowout win. I'm not sold that he's first team Big10 material like you slobber over him. How's his ass taste jock sniffer?

I liked his play in pretty much every game. If Perkins can be all big ten then this kids a lock.

We need to give Harding 30 mins up at the Kohl’s center in January. That’s when this season really restarts.

Maybe it's the potential they've witnessed over the years that gives them the insight of him taking the next step. For that step to be successful he's gonna need PT to take the edge off and slow the game down. As long as Fran doesn't bring back his Joe T. mindset and shut him down and limit him to 3-5 minutes a game we may get to see him reach his potential at IOWA instead of moving on to a "Texas Tech" and solidifying their PG position while we are still pissin and moanin about how we still don't have a PG. Just my opinion.

This team isn't going anywhere without some serious help from this freshman class. There are holes that need filling, or additional help, to make this years team consistently watchable. I've turned the channel a few times this year and I'm at the point with what I've seen so far that this year will greatly affect next years success. You limit the time these freshman play this year will only slow their development and confidence going into next year.

It is probably too early to start declaring Harding as ready to be a top PG against a team like Wisky, He needs to get some time to find out. It is clear to me that Iowa will not even be a .500 team in the B1G, if Fran doesn't make some changes. If he is healthy, I think Dembele also needs to be getting minutes. He and Freeman are already better defenders and rebounders than the other interior players. I think Payton needs to be getting minutes primarily as a 3...

Freeman & Dembele, better than Krikke and PaddyMac

We probably need Krikke getting minutes because of what he brings on the offensive end, but the rotation at 4/5 should be mostly Freeman, Krikke and Dembele. I want Payton to get most of the minutes at 3. PMac can get some of the minutes Payton isn't playing 3, although Dix needs to be getting minutes at 2/3. We all know that Fran is unlikely to cut Patrick's minutes as much as I think they should be (about 10 min).

My Christmas wish for Brock is he grows 3 inches in the next year. In other words, my biggest concern for him playing in the Big Ten and against other high level opponents is whether he's big enough to compete every game. I like his attitude. The rest of his game will continue to improve.

This is not a .500 team in the BIG regardless of what Fran does this year.

Agree, unless they start shooting much better from range. They are not equipped to score a lot of points in the paint.
Fran's defense-optional teams have survived on offense alone. They've been a top 5 offense in the country the last 4 years with great NBA caliber offensive talent playing winning basketball with suspect defense. They don't have that this year.
