Burglary charges filed....

That's the whole point. I think most fans agree we need an actual S&C coach rather than an ex-wrestler with no more S&C knowledge than anyone else in the program. Some have worked with Coach Doyle from the football program over they years, but he presumably doesn't have the time to properly oversee the wrestling program in addition to the football program. In cases like Brody's, it would be a big help to have an objective expert giving input on whether it's better to go up or down, and with the knowledge to help him make the change as effectively as possible. I'm becoming more and more convinced that this change needs to be made.

And don't worry, mike -- this wasn't some tightly-held secret in Stillwater. You don't have to lose sleep over letting us in on it. Iowa fans have been calling for a true S&C coach for years.
Now that I posted it I'm sure Tom, Terry and Ryan is going to see the light on this matter (that's what I'm worried about).

This is purely anecdotal, but I can speak from experience on the unhealthy weight cutting topic. When I was in high school, I competed at 152lbs in the summer prior to my senior year. I walked around at about 6', 158 or so and made the healthy cut. When the season started I got beat out for both the 152 and 145 varsity spots by D1 bound wrestlers. I was too small for 160 and felt my only option to start was at 140. I made the cut and started out pretty well. I won some big matches with my length and felt fairly strong. As the season moved on, the cut got more and more difficult. This was especially apparent in two day tourneys with multiple weigh in days. The strength I felt in November quickly turned to frailty in January due to malnutrition and dehydration. My immune system also suffered and I got pretty sick. I have no doubt that could I have beaten out our 145 or 152lbers I would have been much healthier and had a better season.

If Grothus is as heavy as reported, he should in no way cut down to 141, it will be a disaster. Its not about whether he can do it once or twice for a dual meet and have success, it'll be about the long season and making the cut once a week or so and making it twice at Midlands and Big 10s and 3 Xs at NCAAs. Hope Brody does the right thing for him and his health. His new nickname should be Grow-thus! :D

Seth Gross is registered at 65kg for the Northern Plains Sr Freestyle tournament this weekend. It lists his state as Minnesota and he is competing unattached from any wrestling club.

The problem with S&C coach at Iowa is he isn't a S&C coach but a ex wrestler with no degree in that field. As for the coaches, they are old school, tough as nails but think anybody can drop 20 pounds and wrestle the same way (John Smith is the same way). OSU has their own S&C coach which isn't a wrestler and doing a great job with the program. Didn't want to post on this matter just because it's giving us the inside track. Could it be all your injuries at the end of the season be happening from over training (mat and S&C)?

Speaking of bad S&C coaches and injuries I noticed Jordan Oliver had a leg wrapped up. He must have had some bad training and coaching leading up to the US open.

Philosophically I'm with Grothus cutting to 141. He wasn't capable of doing it two weeks before B1G. Is he capable of doing it if he starts now? He's got one shot to be an AA, let alone a NC. I can see the path at 141 (other than Retheford). I don't see the path at 157. The idea of Grothus going toe-to-toe with IMar...whew.
Retherford will be 149. his 141 days are over
