R's are either going to have to backtrack on abortion and piss off the christian conservatives or they will continue to lose ground. The results of the R's culture wars are now being seen and the majority of Americans are not into it...Rs continue to lose ground in the Senate. 538 forecast now favors the Dems 65-35. Amazing given that just this summer Rs were the ones favored.
So you are willing to throw Trump under the bus now?Human life over country, constitution, party.
This is the impossible tightrope I've been talking about since Roe was overturned. The safety net has been removed and a step in any direction invites danger.R's are either going to have to backtrack on abortion and piss off the christian conservatives or they will continue to lose ground. Its a no-win dilema for the more extreme GOP candidates:
a) If you re-affirm your far right position against reproductive rights, you will lose support of a signiificant portion of moderate Republican and Independent voters.
b) If you backtrack on your abortion position, you will invoke the wrath of the religious zaealots, a substantial segment of the party, who are also dedicated single-isse voters.
And, they are creating a problem for themselves while they attempt to scrub their record on women's health. They risk alienating the pro life zealots they have pandered to for decades. You cannot backtrack with these people. It's 100 percent or nothing. The people who are driving the most extreme measures will be less excited this election cycle if the GOP candidate is out in public talking about how abortions up to 15 weeks, or with exceptions past then are fine. The backtracking by some Republican candidates up for election in November is remarkably dizzying and transparently phony.
Blake Masters is a "no-exception-protection-from-conception" Republican who recently won the GOP nomination for Senate in Arizona. Within the past few days he scrubbed his campaign website of his extreme abortion views and is now trying to portray himself as a "common sense" moderate.
In Arizona, Blake Masters backtracks on abortion and scrubs his campaign website

Other Republican candidates are giving the old jackie Gleason "hommina hommina" response when asked about their long standing extreme positions.
Did they think pro-choice voters, a solid majority, wouldn't notice?
I seems likely that Blake Masters has chosen the backtrack option based on the recommendation of political advisors smarter than him who have taken notice of the backlash generated by the Dobbs decision. GOP political analysts have undoubtedly focus grouped this issue and they know how to read election results.Need to hit the meme-generator again...

Potential for high level of flop sweat among Republican candidates this Fall. And, they are creating a problem for themselves while they attempt to scrub their record on women's health.
