C.J. Beathard

Well, let's see, the kid out of NDSU went #2 in the draft and would take CJ every day of the week over him, so yeah, I'd say he is probably near the top of the QB class this year.

This does seem high for CJ but most evaluations have him in the top 5-10 senior QB's. While I am of course biased, given the offense we run, he has quite a bit of upside based on his athleticism, strong arm, solid accuracy and "It" factor. He seems unfazed by pressure, which is a plus. I predict he will land in the 3rd round.

Absolutely. He has tremendous physical skills, a brilliant football mind, a linebacker's mentality, and rare leadership qualities. All CJ needs is to stay healthy, and he'll leave no doubt about his value as a quarterback as he leads the Hawkeyes to greatness again this fall.

As I've said in other threads, I wouldn't trade CJ Beathard for any other QB in the country. Period.

I could see him going in the second round with a strong year. I think he is underrated due to the fact he doesn't put up the flashy numbers and has only started for one year. The biggest question with him is can he stay healthy.

It's a weak QB class at least for seniors, but with a good year he's a solid 2nd round pick and with a great year he is a first rounder.

I think if CJ Beathard stays healthy and puts up solid numbers running and has decent passing stats (I'm hopeful Iowa's passing game will be better than last year) he will definitely be attractive to a lot of teams because of his leadership qualities and the fact he possesses all the important assets you want in a quarterback (arm strength, accuracy, decision-making, etc.). I'm sure his NFL pedigree (grandfather) might help him some too.

AND, no NFL team will have to worry about him being recorded smoking weed out of a gas mask, or exhibiting any of the character traits that has given Johnny Football such fame and notoriety.

It's actually pretty remarkable Beathard had the season he had playing with a sports hernia most of the year. That kid had some serious pain tolerance to play through that, and lead the team to 12-0. I'm really excited to see what he can do healthy.

Don't have an opinion per se outside of the fact that CJ is a stud and it was his leadership abilities along with a couple other kids who helped right the ship and stop the listing IMO. But I thought it was worth noting we often (even the most positive of us) consider our offense somewhat tedious and conservative but the truth is it's pretty similar to a lot of offenses including North Dakota State. It's also very much a prostyle offense which is a plus for CJ and was a plus for Carson. For comparison sake, Carson was hurt in several games last year but in 2014 he threw for..

3111 yards in 16 games at I believe 8.7 yards per pass..
CJ threw for 2800 @ 8.1

I thought CJ was the best QB last year in the Big. Conner Cook got all of the attention & allocates!
CJ proved who was better in the Championship game.
It's finally nice to read a article of somebody who knows what he is talking about.
I thought he was fair in his analysis of every kid in his top 5.
I would personally switch Lunt & Dobbs.

I didn't see all world J. T. Barrett on his list hmmmm..

Well as I said above if North Dakota State's offense was productive enough Iowa's will be too, quite frankly if a hurt quarterback can through for 2800 yards in 14 games! I'm not sure how much more production people would expect to have?

Well, Jake Rudock got drafted and CJ beat him out. Hopefully he can stay healthy this year and we can see what a 100% healthy CJ can do. It's hard to tell how much better he could have been last year if not for the injuries.

100% agreed I think there's no telling how good he could be. His gamesmanship and leadership is unparalleled and his ability is top shelf on top of it!

Could use more time in the weight room to help avoid injuries.. That's all

I don't see much, if any, correlation between weight training and avoidance of a football injury. For instance, I've never heard anyone say that Beathard could have avoided the sports hernia if he would have just knocked out a few more sets of, lets say, Romanian deadlifts.

Holy. Shit.

C.J. will be a lock for the first round, if, as I suspect, Iowa has another sucessful season in 2016.

The QB class seems kind of weak next year. For example, Todd McShay predicted Minnesota's Mitch Leidner to be a first round draft pick.

CJB is easily better than Leidner.

Wes Lunt is ranked #3. They are only ranking senior prospects.

We don't really know what CJ is capable of at this point. Last season we would get to see flashes of just how good he could be then the next play he would be limping around. The one thing that none of the NFL executives can question is his toughness and his commitment to the team. I really hope he can stay healthy and the OL is more effective in their pass blocking. CJ could have a very special season coming up.

On a side note, the fact that JR was drafted speaks volumes to everyone involved. Kudos to him for making the most out of his season at Michigan. Turns out KF was right the last 2-3 years when he said that he had 2 really good QBs. When is that last time that Iowa had 2 NFL draft picks at QB on the team at the same time? Also good for KF for essentially telling an NFL QB to hit the bricks. Finally good job to CJ for taking the job and running with it.

I really hope he can stay healthy this year. Improved pass protection is a must. It would be nice to see what he could do fully healthy. It clearly changed his game. we saw what he could do with his legs in the first couple games. Also I think it definitely affected his accuracy on the long throws.

I have to ask. Is this a joke?? If not. Holy. Shit.

Vlasic and Long come to mind.

He didn't make it through spring healthy, so I'm pretty concerned for the season.

Will never question his toughness, but he does need to play smarter in regards to his body. He hurt himself stretching all out for the end zone against Pitt, and had that helicopter collision as well.

While the effort wins over teammates and fans, think it's safe to say we are all believers in him. I'm hoping this year he learns to slide and get out of bounds
