Cade Borud

He went to SE Polk??

A little info on him....
High school tackle and center who helped his team win a state title as a senior. Was a starter from his sophomore season on. Was dependable, smart and tenacious in high school and has continued to that into his college career. Big Ten teams gave him a late look in high school but he was committed to UND by that time.

Built like a true center. Is not the tallest or longest player, but plays with excellent technique, balance and leverage. Has a hockey background which helps with his flexibility and balance.

Has excellent intangibles. Should continue to start at the Power Four level and be rock solid. Should have a chance to be an NFL prospect. How teams feel about his frame and length will be a big determining factor in that but as far as play, he's extremely high-floor.

He is a Center that can play Guard , high motor , good feet , strong and nasty , He will be a very very good P5 OL

He was really good in high school vs. big DL and smaller athletic types. He's probably one of Iowa's top two OL when he arrives. Anytime you can replace the weakest link of a unit, the unit gets much better. One more good portal lineman and Iowa's OL could be average, which would be a tremendous improvement.

I'm not sure whether to be excited or more concerned that Iowa is in the market for an interior lineman when we all know that the greatest need on perhaps the entire team is tackles. Are the interior linemen still looking that suspect as well?
Dunker was developing into a good OT.

What used to be two strengths at Iowa in wrestlers and linemen now weaknesses forcing Iowa to pilfer North Dakota’s rosters. Says more about the state of both programs coaches and their inability to recruit and develop wrestlers/players they brought in to the respective programs multiple years in a row out of high school. Seems to be a trend with both coaching staffs which is troubling to say the least.

Cause those schools didn't sometimes produce great linemen? UNI just had a 1st rounder a couple years back (maybe 3 years now).

Great info from you guys that are familiar with his game -- THANKS.
We seem to be a "get the best guys on the bus and then we'll move them around" type of program. I love the flexibility of him bumping over to guard.

Our current center is not that great. No one on this line should be guaranteed a spot . Bring in the competition.
This is 💯 correct. For a program that has always prided itself as a great OL school, it’s a big concern that we have no one that is a slam dunk OL anchor. Not saying Borud is that (yet anyway - who knows what he can develop into), but at this point no one should have a guaranteed spot given past performance.

He was offered a preferred walk on, but took the ride at North Dakota. So you can't blame him or the staff for that one. He might have just put in the work while at North Dakota enough to now come on board with a ride here. It works like that sometimes. (Which if he can keep that chip on his shoulder, he might bring some nasty with him)

He slots in as a IOL starter for Iowa IMO His tape is better than any Iowa OL the last 3 Years as a Freshman

It’s interesting to me, that our fans have finally turned on The Brands boys. For years I got to read on here how Tom didn’t accept mediocrity….LOL.

Poor Iowa, the only university in the nation with dumb stubborn coaches….
