Caitlin ends her Iowa Career with 3,951 Points (NCAA & All-Time "Large School" Record). Megan Gustafson finished at 2,804

Caitlin had 15 assists last night bringing her to 995 for her career. Only 5 to make the 1000 assist mark which has only been done by 5 other players. We'd need a deep run for her to move higher than 6th on all time assists.

Someone should tell all the detractors this little piece of info:

It took 139 games for Lynette Woodard to score her 3,649 career points at Kansas (from 1978-1981).

It will take 130 games for Caitlin to pass Lynette Woodard's mark (all Caitlin has to do is average 27 ppg in the next 6 games). Game #130 for Caitlin, when she breaks Lynette's all time scoring record, is Sunday, March 3rd vs Ohio State (Senior Day), 12:00 pm CT Tip, TV: FOX. This, of course, is the last game of the regular season.

The Caitlin Countdown:

Caitlin had 31 points in #2 Iowa's (22-3, 11-2) 82-79 loss at Nebraska (16-8, 8-5) yesterday.

3,520: Current Career Points.

27.2 ppg: The conservative number used in the calculations below. This was her scoring average in her first 100 Games (through her junior season).

Important Dates (based on that conservative 27 ppg scoring average):

Thurs Feb 15 vs Michigan (in Iowa City; game is on Peacock): Caitlin is projected to break the NCAA Scoring Record of 3,527 points.

Sun March 3 vs Ohio State (Senior Day): the final regular season game.

*****Caitlin is projected to break Lynette Woodard's All Time Scoring Record of 3,649 points.

*****Caitlin is expected to participate in Senior Day.

Fri March 8 in Minneapolis (first game for a Top 4 Seed in the B1G Tournament): Caitlin is projected to top Pete Maravich's men's scoring record of 3,667 points.

Milestones, with a projected 10 more games this season:

(1) 8 pts needed to break the NCAA record of 3,527 (Kelsey Plum, University of Washington; 2014-2017; 139 GP; 25.4 ppg).
-----> Looks like she needs 1 more game to do it, which would occur on Thurs Feb 15 vs Michigan (in Iowa City; game is on Peacock).

(2) 130 pts needed to break the AIAW record of 3,649 (Lynette Woodard, Kansas University; the AIAW was pre-NCAA; she played from 1978-1981; 139 GP; 26.3 ppg)
-----> Looks like she needs roughly 5 more games to do it (27 ppg x 5 games = 135), which would occur on Sun March 3 in Iowa City vs Ohio State (Senior Day).

(3) 148 pts needed to top the Men's NCAA record of 3,667 (Pete Maravich, LSU; 1968-1970; 83 GP; 44.2 ppg).
-----> Looks like she needs roughly 6 more games to do it (27 ppg x 6 games = 162), which would occur on Fri March 8 in Minneapolis (first game for a Top 4 Seed in the B1G Tournament).

(4) On Jan 31, 2024, in a 110-74 win at Northwestern, Caitlin set the Big Ten Career Scoring Record. The previous record was 3,402 points (Kelsey Mitchell, Ohio State; 2015-2018; 139 GP; 24.5 ppg).

(5)
On Nov 12, 2023, in a 94-53 win at UNI, Caitlin passed Megan Gustafson's 2,804 to become Iowa's All Time Leading Scorer.

Iowa is now 22-3 with a projected 10 more games to go this season. NOTE: during the 2022-2023 season (38 games) we played 29 reg season games, 3 B1G tourney games, and 6 NCAA tourney games to get to our final 31-7 record. This season we should expect around 35 games (30 reg season games plus HOPEFULLY AT LEAST 2 B1G tourney games and AT LEAST 3 NCAA tourney games).

Caitlin's 4 year Career Points Projection:
2,717 pts to start the 2023-2024 season (100 Games)
945 projected pts for 2023-2024 (35 games x 27 ppg career ave)
..........................................
3,662 Projected Points by end of 2023-2024 season (new NCAA & ALL TIME record)
===================

For GOAT Reference:

2,804 Career Points, Megan Gustafson (#26 in NCAA History)

...........20.8 ppg, 2015-2019, 135 GP

3,649 Career Points, Lynette Woodard (has the AIAW career scoring record; the AIAW was pre-NCAA; the NCAA took over the administration of women's basketball starting with the 1981-82 season; the NCAA, unfortunately, has treated the AIAW, the first era of organized collegiate women's basketball, as if it never happened; in 4 years and 139 games played at Kansas, from 1978-1981, Lynette was a 4 time All-American and averaged 26.3 points per game; she probably should be considered the current all time D1 and D1 equivalent scoring leader).

When could she pass former Hawkeye Deb Remmerde in career points(NAIA)?

Deb is probably the best pure shooter Iowa (the state of) has ever seen. There are some stats for you to look up Fran.

Didn't Deb transfer out of Iowa City before playing a game? I recall Lisa offering her, then late summer she hurt her ankle, or foot, which led to her deciding to transfer closer to home. Her career FT percentage certainly reflects the quality shooter she was. I wonder if her daughter's have taken up basketball?

I believe you are correct, pretty sure she did not play a game at Iowa. Quite the career at Northwestern (College) though.

Deb was on the roster fall semester 2003 but never played before transferring at the break.

Deb holds 11 NAIA Div. II women's basketball records, including points (3,854), career scoring average (28.8), three-pointers (481), three-point percentage (54.2) and free throw percentage (95.8). She earned first team All-American honors all four years and was the 2006 and 2008 national player of the year. Deb broke all known organized basketball records when she connected for 133 straight free throws during the 2005-06 season. She holds several national tournament records and was named MVP when the Raiders captured the championship in 2008. A two-time NAIA Scholar-Athlete, Deb has also been inducted to the Iowa High School Basketball Hall of Fame.

Those percentages/stats are incredible.

I was there watching when she played in the Game Time League in North Liberty! I wish they would bring it back, Brian Joens being one of the coaches or not.

I have no idea how she played in the Game Time League. Any thoughts you wish to share?
