Can Iowa win the West still ?

With tons of help yes. But given the current staff in charge of the offense, I don't see a way even if keeping a non Petras at QB. It would require letting go the entire offense related staff plus Kirk Ferentz and Barta and keeping anyone associated with the D in tact. Then there would be a slim chance.

Iowa will score on NU. Everybody does.
NU will be in the cellar again, don’t worry.

Can someone remind me of the three way tie breaker for Iowa, Purdue and Illinois?

As long as (1) Iowa wins its next 2 games and (2) Illinois loses one of its next 2 games (at Michigan, at N'western), Iowa wins the B1G West and there will only be an Iowa/Purdue tie breaker.

Current Standings:

4-3 Illinois
4-3 Iowa
4-3 Purdue
4-3 Minnesota
3-4 Wisconsin
2-5 Nebraska
1-6 Northwestern

Standings if Iowa wins next 2 games and Illini lose at least 1 of 2:
6-3 Iowa (Iowa has head to head tie breaker over Purdue)
3 losses (at least) Purdue
4 losses (at least) Illinois
4 losses (at least) Minnesota
4 losses (at least) Wisconsin
6 losses (at least) Nebraska
6 losses (at least) Northwestern

Its wild how good our defense is. One could only imagine our potential should we have an average offense.

Give this Iowa team an average offense... just run #2 every play... or run #3 with the wildcat... this is all I ask.

The current Big Ten West is the worst football division I have ever seen. Iowa has a chance; let that sink in.

A bad 6-3 West team is going to face a 9-0 Ohio State

The ratings likely are not going to be good unless there are people tuning in on occasion to see how bad the score looks.

If Illinois, Iowa and Purdue all finish 6-3, Illinois goes to BTCG. Division record eliminates Purdue, then Illinois has the tiebreaker head to head over Iowa.

Iowa goes to BTCG by winning out and Illinois losing one (which is extremely likely, since Illinois plays at Michigan).

Purdue goes to BTCG by winning out and Iowa losing one.

Minnesota goes to BTCG by winning out and Illinois and Purdue both losing one (unlikely -Purdue plays NW & IN).

So, if I’m not mistaken, NO team in the B1G West controls it’s own destiny. However, it seems like the two most likely scenarios are for Iowa and Purdue.

I’m too tired to figure out the possibilities with the division winner(s) being 5-4…

EDIT - based on reading official tie-breaker rules in another thread, I believe Iowa actually goes to BTCG in that first scenario, based on winning % of B1G East opponents. If Illinois actually wins their last 2 games, they would still need Purdue to lose one.

Illannoy still controls its destiny. Win out and they need no other results from other games.

Correct. However, the Illini should have had the West already wrapped up.

* All they had to do was beat Michigan State at home last week as a 16 point favorite (they lost).

* Then, all they had to do this week was beat Purdue at home as a 7 point favorite (they lost again).

* And next week they are not winning at Michigan, imo, which would be a third straight loss.

In 4 consecutive games, the Illini beat Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota and Nebraska. Now, after the Illini losing to MSU & Purdue, it is Iowa and Purdue (vs N'western, at IU) who appear to be the top 2 contenders to win the West.

Win the west; oh ye of little faith.

It is quite humorous to reread the beginning of this thread, October. It is the usual dissing & saying the team will not even win another game, but here we are.

Kind of reminds me of how ****official game threads**** start; however, the Hawks still manage to win the game. Football is not like Olympic ice skating or diving, style points don't matter in the end, just a "W".

Good job, hawks, now go win 3 more.

Absolutely spot on.
