I enjoy travelling to Mexico and Canada. They are both nice places, or have nice places I guess more correctly.

However, in regard to tariffs, Mexico is NOT doing anything of consequence to stem the tide of drugs and illegals. This is because both benefit Mexico. The illegal's remittances and the money from the drug trade are a very real part of Mexico's economy.
Canada has been benefiting far too long a fortunate neighbor. They need to act like they owe us something because they most certainly do. They are the little brother that gets protection from bullies from the bigger stronger brother then bad mouths them when they get the chance. They should be kissing our ass. They are not an independent superpower and as such they don't need to show the world they are strong. They are not. They rely nearly 100% on us for almost everything. As such, they should be kissing our ass, even if that is only behind closed doors to save face.
We do not need them. They need us.
But sure, I'd love to keep going skiing in BC. But hell, at this point in time, I think BC would join as the 51st state if the shit really hit the fan. BC hates Quebec. Period.

Pending a leadership election in his party. He is PM til then. Doesn’t matter, when the conservative take power in Canada they will at the very least maintain the retaliatory tariffs if not go further.
Politically speaking this helps Poulivere, he gets accused of being too close to Trump whom Canadians despise, so an opportunity to stand up to Trump on the world's stage shores up one of his biggest weaknesses.

What we’ve seen is major powers abuse their neighbors, and they are strong enough to do it to one of them.

America has avoided this precisely because being friends with America is a good deal, not only for them but for us. We have the strongest economy in the history of the planet. We have weathered COVID better than anybody. We are putting that all at risk simply because we want to slam our dicks on the table and demand to push people around.
Might work out in the short term. But making our two neighbors become more closely entangled likely with China and Russia is just not a god idea, I’m sorry.

What we're seeing is a guy that's extremely dangerous and is wanting to take over any country that he can. And if they are forced to give in, do you really think they'll have the same rights as us? Your first paragraph has nothing to do with tariffs. Nobody is suggesting unfettered immigration or drug trafficking is a good idea.
Mexicos government has been a tremendous ally of ours. For example, the remain in Mexico policy worked well under Obama. However, in order for that to work you have to be an ally of that country. Trump has been openly suggesting we have military operations in Mexico. We aren’t going to get any help from them under the current circumstances.
