This is reasonable, adult response.

That said, at age 19 I likely would have hit the road within 20 minutes of discovering that Potato Oles were a mere 5.5 hours from my current location.
I get it.

I think the worst/best I can remember is in college, driving 40 miles for a (really good) gas station burrito.

I just checked, and they will now ship them to you - that's a lot less fun.

That shredded beef chimichanga, though!!

Dude they’ve got a seasoning that is just a potato phenomenon. I recommend finding the recipe.

I love potato ole's, but I never found a recipe online that was even close, so I went to the lab and put together something as close as I could get.

Also, one of the keys is you need to deep fry them or it's just not the same. There is also a slight sweetness to the seasoning that I couldn't pin for awhile. I tried a bunch of different sugars, but turns out it's MSG.

Give it a shot:

Potato Ole Seasoning:

1 T. Paprika
1/2 tsp. Garlic Powder
1/2 tsp. Onion Powder
1/2 tsp. MSG
1/8 tsp. Black Pepper (finely ground)
1 tsp. Celery Salt
1/4 tsp. table salt (don't use kosher/sea/himalayan/etc)

It's actually just a really good all around seasoning mix. Curious on anyone's opinion who tries it.

If I had to guess, it is 3 parts lawry's, 1 part celery salt, and 1 part paprika.

From my initial internet research, they're either:
A. Lawry's Seasoning Salt
B. Celery Salt
C. Lawry's + Cayenne + Paprika + Cumin

Research continues...

People always say Lawry's, but that's just due to Lawry's being really heavy in celery salt. Cayenne and Cumin are also out. I love cumin, and it's not in there. Cumin is too smoky of a flavor. Ole's are also not spicy at all. Cayenne pepper is a mild gradual heat you feel on the back end. People say Cayenne because it's red and they're dumb.

I posted a recipe a couple posts up that I spent too much time trying to figure out lol. But it's very close... you're never going to be able to replicate the real thing, because they're mass producing a spice mix that contains ingredients we don't even have access to buy.

Onion rings all the way and I don’t care if they do make me phart.
I have never had a problem with the "pharting", but definitely agree with onion rings being the best. Unfortunately, most restaurants do not make their own, they use pre-made frozen ones. I make my own and think they are pretty darn good. I wash them in buttermilk and then coat them in flower. They are nice and crispy but not too heavy on the breading. Down here in Florida, cheese curds are not as popular as onion rings in my opinion.

Aren't you aware of the risks of ingesting the marijauana's?

I keed I keed.... buttermilk soak is key to any great onion ring.

I haven't had Taco John's in many years. The potato oles used to have a squirt of hot sauce in the middle.

I've had Ole's since... I don't know early 2000's and I've never seen this hot sauce squirt madness. This had to be a local store thing.

Also... hot take, **** the nacho cheese. Hides the flavor of the seasoning too much.

The poll lacks the option to choose neither, which would be the correct choice.
Curds and rings look, taste, and feel like something created when some dumbass kitchen manager forgot to order enough potatoes.

I like both. But I find myself getting curds more often and onion rings are more of a mood thing for me.

Curds are better.
