Those were illegal searches that were often racist in nature.

It was done like this because black and Latino young men were responsible for 95% plus percent of the murders in the city. The result of the effort cut murders in half.

I don't disagree that the effort was problematic, but it also wasn't just picking on brown people for the heck of it. It was based on crime demographics and it did produce good results

Think about the number of innocent Black citizens who weren’t crime victims because of that?
