Of course there’s a double standard. Fran got a technical for saying “No way, No way” the other day. Izzo et al run around screaming all game, acting like turds, yet are described as intense.
I can’t believe how long it took the refs to T him up. Compare that to Fran, just wow.

I believe him in this instance. The official in question has made many, many questionable calls against Iowa. Vendettas are real.
BTW Hlas corroborated the “no way” story as well. This isn’t just his players sticking up for him.

As far as Beard v. Fran - calling tech's isn't black and white; whether it's bball, football, or baseball, officials can "take it to the next level" as they see fit
When I umpired baseball, i'd sometimes let a coach look like a jackass before tossing him. Sometimes it'd be quicker than that.
Personally, I love when coaches show fire.. Even if it gets a bit crazy at times.

Beard doesn't have the history Fran does. Much like the "No way, now way" thing, his past is dogging him and officials will have him on a shorter leash. Fair or not that's just reality.
Fran probably would've been taken out in hand cuffs. But to be fair, when you call refs an f'ing disgrace and have a reputation of being a total asshole, you get a quick whistle most nights.
I think it's absolutely fair. Officials are human and have the ability to hold a grudge or not hold a grudge.
It's pretty much up to the coaches to NOT burn bridges but if they have? A shorter leash should be expected.
I'd rather be there and have a chance then continually fade in February and best case lose in the round of 32.
Perhaps you can see in the video if there is a number or not in front of West Virginia.

Fran was fined and suspended after contacting the officials. Beard didn't do that.
For the record I don't have a problem with Fran's outbursts. I think it's childish but that's not for me to decide. I also don't think he meant to contact the officials in 2019 and it was accidental.
The only thing I think he's done that was clearly out of bounds was the time he was discovered following the officials down the hall after the game cussing them out. That's just absurd.
