Can't figure out why he only got 3 minutes today. He played 21 minutes in our last win against Indiana and was a difference maker. Did I miss something or is this another in a long list of rotation head scratchers by Fran?

That's too bad. I like when Williams and Bohannon are together. Williams has a place on this squad, I just wish it wasn't at PG.

Next season depends on Williams. He is our only threat of a PG and we need him on the floor. If he doesn't develop we will be in trouble next year.

The key for Williams is getting his back healthy. That can be easier said than done. Ever tried playing college basketball with a bad back????

Williams will be one of the guys who will lose a lot of minutes next year. He has already had a whole summer to work on shooting and may be the worst shooting perimeter player in Fran's tenure. And he is not a PG, the offense stalls when he is on the court. Granted, he has provided some defensive spark, but not sure that offsets his offense weaknesses. The coaches kid will get his time next year guaranteed!

C Williams has the length to affect the 3 point shooters that JBo does not. That sure would of been helpful to slow down their shots last night. If only Jbo was 2 inches taller.....

Hell there's days I can hardly sit in a chair with a bad back, let alone play ball....of course I'm old, fat, and out of shape, and he's not.

He is a 2 guard playing the PG. I was shocked at how good he was at handling the ball against pressure. As the season went along he learned not to dribble too much and he was able to run the offense. With that being said, lets be honest. He would benefit so much more playing w/a true PG. Someone who can attack the lane and force the defense to collapse. JBO would be shooting wide open 3's all game long if we had that player.

Sadly we do not and none of Iowa's guards are threat to get into the paint and score. I mean you saw what IU did yesterday. 1-4 low and the PG just took JBO right to the lane rose up and hit the shot. I have yet to see Iowa's guards do that?

I have a bad back and it hurts to walk some days. The bad thing about back injuries is they never 100% go away. So this could be an issue that he/we deal with for the next 2 years. That's not good when your only PG on the roster is ailing from a bad back.

I couldn't agree with both of you more. Hurt my back in high school basketball 30 years ago and still have days where it is tough to stand up straight let alone play BB at the level needed for college game. Very little chance for CW to get the needed rest especially during the season

Williams is not a pg and has been playing out of position for 2 years out of necessity. I hope he moves the 3, works a ton on shooting and getting healthy and Connor plays backup pg next season.

THIS season was FAR more dependent on Williams than next year will be. JOBo was pretty much thrust into the starting roll when it was evident better with him out there. Sure, would be nice to see a healthy Williams up his game but I don't think there is any way he will be counted on for major minutes and certainly will not go into the season counted on as a starter like this year. He can play a valuable roll but just that, a nice roll player.

Hold up. So Williams is our only threat at point guard next season? So your in the Jbo is not really a point guard crowd? Kid was top five in the league in assists. One of the most dangerous LONG range three point gunners in the league as a freshmen. Shot almost 90% from the line. Tough as nails. First All BIG Freshman team. Played his butt off last night, 24 points and 10 ASSISTS! Still has three years to hone his craft. But he's still not the guy? I'll take him on my team, thats for damn sure. I'm also of the belief that Connor will be decent player next year. Wouldn't expect him to have the freshman year that Jbo did, for one because he won't see that kind of playing time. Williams is a guy without a position right now. Have no wish for him to leave, but he needs a lot of skill development, or his role will basically be situational defensive substitute.

Agree with this. Williams started the season as the starter and couldn't cut it so how can we be dependent more on him next year. As I have said before, CW will be sitting next to Uhl at the end of the bench for most of the year next year. You can guarantee that Connor will get the first shot at backup to PG next year

I agree Bravehawks, and don't you think he SHOULD be given the first shot to back up Jbo? Frans had two years to see what Williams brings to the table, and to this point he certainly hasn't earned that spot.

Everybody deserves a shot at the playing time, I am just afraid Connor will get the first shot because of last name. I know some on here think Fran will be harder on his son than other players, but I am not ready to agree that to be the case. I don't think Connor is as good as Gatens at same point in HS, so hopefully I am proven wrong. I know it is not anywhere close to apples to apples comparison, but we know what a crapfest we had with the last BB coach and his son's playing time.

Respectfully, lets not make any comparisons with the last regime and this one. I mean was little Lick a top 150 recruit by pretty much all of the rankings? Like many coaches kids who grew up in the gym, Connor has a high basketball IQ, and knows how to be sucessful with the tools he has. I'd liken him to a backcourt version of Pemsl. Not the most physically gifted player, but smart, and knows the game.
As for Fran, I'd bet he will be harder on him then anyone else. As someone who played for his Dad, (as I'm sure many here did), I can attest to that dynamic.

This titled scared me for some reason thought it was going to say something like he transfered which I reallly hope nobody does.

A slasher/attacker in a lane. JBO is a great player, Im not saying that he's bad, but teams are going to hound him like they did JOK this year. He won't be able to take a piss w/out someone from the other team shaking it for him. We need another guard to step up and be worthwhile. Williams, Moss, and Ellingson have to be able to score and attack the lane. JBO is a great shooter, but how many lay-ups or pull up jumpers in the lane did he hit this year?

All I am saying is he is going to need help next year. He can't do it by himself. We need some other guards who can step up. Defensively did you see how IU just ran 1-4 and had their PG take JBO 1-1? That is something he is going to need to work on and I wish Iowa had a player like that kid (newkirk)? he would help free up Bohannon.

I don't expect he'll be playing by himself next year. I thought Moss played pretty well last night, and he does seem to have the skills to both go to the rack, and score, and shoot. Made some nice plays on defense as well. His continued development is very important. As to the things Jbo didn't do all that well this year, do you think perhaps he'll improve on his mid range game? Certainly hope thats the case as well. Its also possible that Dailey throws his hat in the ring next year. He seems to have a varied skill set, and might provide some assistance as well.
I'd agree that IF someone decides to transfer after this season, a guard should be top priority. We appear to be well stocked in the front court, and have a dynamic wing coming next year, in Weiskamp. If everyone stays then Fran will have to develop Dailey, Connor, and Moss to provide that assistance.

Connor actually compares pretty well to Gatens as a senior. Both are power guards who use their size rather than athleticism to score. Gatens was able to refine his shooting in college. Connor is a better passer. Matt probably a slightly better basketball athlete.

People need to watch Connor in AAU before making judgement. He has looked good against top competition on an AAU team that wasn't that strong- Austin Phyfe was their next best player and Lane didn't really stand out once he got out of iowa high school competition.

Yep...Point Guard position is in pretty good shape the next few years with Bohannon/McCaffery (you got some real headed players right there)..still think Williams isnt out of the picture.

What position should he play? The "S" in "SG" is clearly not being covered by Williams.

The reality:

Bohannan = lights out shooter, decent PG but more of a shooting guard without the size typically required. Defensive liability either way.
Williams = Good defender, long and can disrupt passing lanes, adequate to marginal point guard skills, not really a creator .... terrible shooter.

Implication: We must add a stronger piece to the guard puzzle, but has to be someone who is athletic, can defend well and take pressure off JOBO. Could be Moss, but we need to hedge our bet.

Yeah, give up golf.

CW just cannot be the other point guard for even a few minutes a game without an unforeseeable improvement in his ball handling and court awareness. He has no shot so defense can get right in his grill.

The kid might have a future on the wing, however. Give him fewer decisions and less information to process. CW could play looser and get more comfortable. Everything about his shot looks like it has regressed. Less pressure might solve that problem.

There is still a nice potential upside for CW. I hope he does not transfer but works on developing enough of a shot to at least keep a defender in the camera angle. CW's defensive games provide a nice advantage on that end of the court. Much too soon to scratch him from the roster.

Going to respectfully disagree on being in good shape at PG. we will have smart bb
IQ guys, but not a slashing guy who can break down the defense. This will keep Fran from taking his team to the next level. Our shooting guards will continue to get mugged
