CJ Fredrick at KY

Yeah - I'm not sure how you can play 32 minutes with a bunch of McDonald's All-Americans and not get an assist.
Kentucky still finding itself as a team. To be fair, Frederick's job with Kentucky is to space the floor and wait for the ball to be thrown to him, and if he's open to shoot it. But yes, odd to play that many minutes and not have a rebound or assist.

Yes...he literally stood on the side holding his hands out waiting at times. I found it odd.

Why? From what I remember he was pretty stationary at Iowa as well.
He was actually decent at getting into the lane and shooting his little mid-range or working off screens and cutting to the basket when at Iowa, at least when he was healthy. Kentucky's offense, with their on-ball talent, is far different. They basically space the floor and let the ball-handler work off ball screens and make something happen. Since Frederick isn't option 1, 2 or 3 with the ball in his hands, his job at Kentucky appears to be to stand in the corner and wait for the ball to be kicked to him off dribble penetration.

He'll have some games where he makes 4-5 3's when teams collapse, and other games where he doesn't do much.

Were we watching different games? CJ appeared pretty active in the motion offense from what I recall.

As usual Cal has a bunch of great athletes w/very few shooters, which is why CJ in theory should be good for this team. The Kentucky offense is certainly not smooth. Agree w/ @DodgerHawki that there will be games where he'll hit 4-5 and others where he will look like he did last night. Sparty has much improved guard play by the way in my opinion from last year.

He may have had instances where he moved into the lane for some bunnies but what I remember he would plant himself free throw line extended and wait for someone to get him the ball.

I wasn’t as impressed as others with what he brought to the floor. Maybe all the time nursing one injury after another soured my opinion but his game never equaled the hype he showed up with to Iowa City.

Why the hate? He is just a kid playing b ball . You guys have no clue what went down and why he left. He is a great kid from a great family. He is playing d 1 basketball unless you have played your self you have no idea what those kids go through.

Bullshit. Moss, Toussaint and Nunge all transferred and Iowa fans by and large wished them well. Fredrick not so much and for good reason.

Ohhh idk, could have something to do with telling Fran he was excited to get back to work and assured him he wasn’t going anywhere. Then a day later he enters the portal. That may have something to do with the hate. Oh and to top it off, he was supposedly a “family friend” which is what brought him to IA.

It sure there was much hype around him honestly. Wasn’t some big 4 star recruit.

Their top guard is withdrawing from NBA draft. I wonder how many minutes he will get or if he will even start.

Yes. I’m still bitter about sneaky CJ and his shady ass uncle situation. Karma would be CJ coming off the bench and getting way less minutes.

There will be lots of competition at the guard position for KY, while CJ would have been the go-to player here. SMH

Nice!
