CJ Fredrick at KY

CJ only hit 32% from the 3 this year. Oof, we got lucky when he left.

On the bright side, he averaged almost one rebound per game!

Our three main guards go 32.8%/33.6%/33.9%, so not much difference. But if a guy doesn't want to be here, it's better that he goes. Next man in.

Say what you want about Frederick but when he was here and not injured he was a stud.
CJ averaged over 46% from three while at Iowa.

That is an insane clip.

Can't blame a coach for playing a guy who makes nearly half of threes. Also would have taken him on this year's team in a heartbeat.

And Fran has always been loyal the guys who have put in the time,... apparently a lesson that was lost on CJ.

Except he didnt play defense, rebound, block shots or create steals.
Murrays would outplay him 1 on 1 every day and twice on Sunday’s and we saw healthy CJ get run out of the gym in D every game out.

its near moronic to compare the 1 demensional Frederick to either of the Murray’s.

And averaged less then 2 three pointer a game, he was a good player but he was never a player that was going to lead Iowa to a big title. Him leaving was the best for him and Iowa.

Really hard to say how much of his decline was injury or honestly maybe he just excelled better under Fran’s coaching.

Exactly. And it can’t hurt to be a shooting specialist when you’re playing with Garza, Weiskamp and Bohannon.

But was he better than either of the Murray brothers?
They played different positions. What an odd question.

I get the hatred towards CJ and I’m not a fan of the guy myself but he was one heck of a player for Iowa.(again when healthy)

He was a good shooter, but he was indifferent towards defense and rebounding. So, kind of the perfect Fran player. ;)
My issue with him leaving was that he clearly was not honest with the staff and his fellow players. If you aren't happy, work with the staff. If that doesn't work, you leave. No worries. In today's transfer landscape it's a common occurrence. The problem is CJ lied to people here.

Agreed lucas. The whole way that went down was shady and it seemed to really anger Fran, who usually is very cordial towards those who decide to transfer.
