A former Michigan priest arrested by authorities who posed as a 15-year-old boy on the dating app Grindr has been convicted. Aaron Nowicki, 49, was convicted of child sexually abusive activity on Thursday, according to a news release from Chippewa County Prosecutor Robert L. Stratton.
Nowicki resigned from priestly ministry in Jan. 2019 after it was alleged he had an “improper, but not criminal, relationship with a vulnerable adult,” the Roman Catholic Diocese of Marquette said in a statement.
During a 2021 operation, the Genesee Human Oppression Strike Team, or GHOST, collaborated with Upper Peninsula law enforcement agencies in an undercover operation posing as a 15-year-old boy on the dating app Grindr.

Oklahoma Baptist Pastor Arrested On Child Sex Charges​

Tulsa’s ABC affiliate reports:

Tulsa Police arrested a man who worked as a pastor at a church and is accused of inappropriately touching a girl over a period of three years. The victim said Matthew Martinez was an associate pastor at New Heights Baptist Church and Academy near 21st and Memorial.
She said Martinez first touched her hand and foot but then progressed to putting his hand up her skirt several times. She said he also touched her chest area and made her touch him. She said they kissed about 30 times, and each time was either at the school or church. The victim said Martinez would also text her that he loved her.
Police say they’ve recovered more than a thousand text messages. He’s been charged with two counts of sexual battery. News On 6 reached out to the church but haven’t heard back yet.

Ohio Youth Pastor Indicted On Child Sex Charges​

The Cincinnati Enquirer reports:

An arrest warrant has been issued for a youth pastor after he was indicted on more than a dozen charges of sex crimes involving minors. Jairo Sanchez, 38, is wanted by the Butler County Sheriff’s Office, according to a report from law enforcement.
The youth pastor was indicted on charges of gross sexual imposition, sexual imposition, unlawful restraint and abduction, Butler County court records show. The Butler County Prosecutor’s Office said Sanchez is accused of victimizing five minors, all of whom were 16 years old or younger.
Two of the victims were under 13 years old, the report from the sheriff’s office says. Sanchez worked as a pastor or youth pastor at three different locations in Hamilton County, according to the prosecutor’s office.

A Houston-area pastor is facing serious charges after being accused of raping a child and impregnating her, court documents stated. According to an arrest warrant, the rape started when the victim was 7 years old and lasted into her late teen years, happening more than 600 times. With Robert L. Carter now charged with a felony, the alleged victim’s father is speaking out. “She had been around this monster since she was about six years old,” he said.
Carter, whose profile on the Black Preachers Network website has him listed as a bishop and senior pastor, is now an accused rapist. According to Carter’s arrest warrant filed last month, the abuse began back in 2008. It states he would go into the then-young child’s room and make her perform a sex act on him on a nightly basis. When she was 16, the warrant states she secretly had Carter’s baby.

FL Baptist Youth Pastor Gets 50 Years For Child Porn​

The former Calvary Baptist Church youth director arrested for hiding a camera in the church bathroom to record people and possessing child pornography was sentenced to 50 years in state prison Friday after taking a plea agreement.
David Nims, 40, was charged with 25 counts of child pornography possession and 16 counts of video voyeurism, and he faced up to 515 years in prison before he took a plea deal. He not only recorded adults in the church bathroom, but also two 6-year-olds, a 10-year-old and a 14-year-old.
As part of the agreement, Nims pleaded no contest to 12 of the 25 child porn charges and 15 of the 16 video voyeurism charges, according to court records.

A Beaverton pastor was jailed last week after being accused of inappropriately touching two young girls who were members of his congregation. A Washington County grand jury indicted Christopher Michael Pruitt, 39, of Beaverton on six counts of first-degree sexual abuse and two counts of third-degree sexual abuse Wednesday, Oct. 11.
Pruitt allegedly touched two girls, one under 14 years old, one under 18 years old, on Sept. 29 in Washington County, according to court documents. In 2017, Pruitt pleaded guilty to public indecency in Multnomah County. He was put on probation for one year for the Class A misdemeanor, according to court records.

Springfield’s CW affiliate reports:

A former pastor from McLeansboro has been sentenced to prison for grooming charges. On October 19, 28-year-old Garrett S. Biggerstaff was sentenced to a maximum three years in prison with the Illinois Department of Corrections for one count of grooming. Biggerstaff was also fined $10,000 and must make restitution to the victims in his case.
The communications director for the Illinois Baptist State Association says that Biggerstaff was a pastor for Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Fairfield. They released a statement in January reading, “The church suspended Biggerstaff immediately and has not returned to the pulpit. Following his arrest, the church has scheduled formal action on his termination.”

Kentucky Pastor Arrested On Child Sex Charges​

A pastor from Covington has been arrested and accused of sexually abusing a child at a church, according to Covington police. The investigation began when police received a report of sexual abuse from a child.
An investigation revealed the abuse allegedly took place at the Ministerio Jesus Liberta Church in Covington late last month. During the investigation, a pastor of the church, Jose Luis Lopez-Hernandez, 50, was identified as the suspect in the alleged abuse.
Detectives learned during the investigation that Lopez-Hernandez had traveled to California for a missionary trip and was supposed to return late last week but skipped the flight back. Police then filed an arrest warrant for Lopez-Hernandez and requested help from the FBI.

Pennsylvania Priest Arrested On 31 Child Porn Counts​

The Johnstown Tribune-Democrat reports:

A priest who was placed on leave by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown in 2017 due to a claim of abusing a minor being made against him was arrested on child pornography charges earlier this week.
The Rev. Anthony Petracca Jr., 67, from Allegheny Township, Blair County, faces 31 felony counts of possession of child pornography and one count of criminal use of a communication facility, according to a release sent out by the office of Pennsylvania Attorney General Michelle Henry.
Petracca as of Wednesday was unable to post bail that was set at $25,000. “Bishop (Mark) Bartchak placed Anthony Petracca on leave from public ministry in July of 2017,” according to a statement provided by the diocese. “He has not functioned as a priest since that time.”

A Department of Corrections chaplain was arrested on multiple child sex charges, according to the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO).
Robert William Austin, 58, of Sanderson, was allegedly sending explicit messages to a “14-year-old girl,” who happened to be an undercover detective, according to the CCSO. Austin allegedly knew of the “juvenile’s” age but continued to send messages.
He was arrested on seven counts of transmission of harmful material to a minor, two counts of computer pornography — seducing, soliciting, luring, or enticing a child to engage in an illegal act, and one count of unlawful use of a 2-way communication device.

Corey White, 33, a former youth pastor at Redeemer Midland was arrested on Oct. 23, and charged with Access with Intent to View Child Sexual Abuse Materials (CSAM)/child pornographic materials. According to an email shared with CBS7, White was fired from the church following his arrest. The email also stated that the church would be fully cooperating with law enforcement during the investigation. White has waived his rights to a preliminary hearing and a detention hearing. He will be held in jail without bond as he waits for trial. White told detectives he preferred incestuous pornography involving mothers and sons.

Raymond E. Holmberg, who was North Dakota’s, and one of the nation’s longest-serving state senators until he resigned last spring, has been indicted on federal child pornography charges.
The charges, filed October 26 and unsealed Monday, come two years after police and federal agents raided the 79-year-old’s home in Grand Forks after an investigation showed Holmberg had traded scores of text messages with another man who was jailed on child pornography charges.
A federal grand jury charged Holmberg with two counts. The indictment against him claims Holmberg traveled to the Czech Republic for the purpose of engaging in sex with a minor, and that he knowingly received child pornography.
