How do YOU think 9/11 threatened American democracy?It’s a Trump-like double-down. There’s the irony.
How do YOU think 9/11 threatened American democracy?It’s a Trump-like double-down. There’s the irony.
That depends on how you view the steadfastness of one man - Mike Pence.Democracy wasn’t in danger of collapsing on Jan 6.
MAGA is TalibanBold narrative choice grouping yourselves with Al-Qaeda.
This.Democracy wasn’t in danger of collapsing on Jan 6.
If you truly believe 1/6 had any chance of success to destroy democracy, you are as deluded as the folks who would pay to follow a blogger. Neither event was going to change the course of our country, despite the severity of both. How do YOU think 9/11 threatened American democracy?
It wasnt on 9/11 either……There was a more DIRECT threat to democracy….in fact there was an act of TREASON committed by the TOURISTS and Trump on 1/6…they interfered with the orderly transfer of power of the United States government….which by Constitutional definition IS an act of treason.Democracy wasn’t in danger of collapsing on Jan 6.
If the military backed it you might have something.OP, aka Simple Jack, as mentioned in another thread regarding this; One event was a threat to the country. The other was a threat to its democratic experiment. Two different things.
Bullshit! If the military backed it you might have something.
A few hundred rednecks? No
I think your stance is naiive. If you truly believe 1/6 had any chance of success to destroy democracy, you are as deluded as the folks who would pay to follow a blogger. Neither event was going to change the course of our country, despite the severity of both.
I don’t think it had anymore chance of success than the Confederacy. If you truly believe 1/6 had any chance of success to destroy democracy, you are as deluded as the folks who would pay to follow a blogger. Neither event was going to change the course of our country, despite the severity of both.
Then what was “the Tourists” purpose of invading the Capitol Building and its House and Senate chambers during the scheduled formal certification of the election results and official tabulation of the Electoral College votes, thus certifying Joe Biden as President of the US? Why were these Tourists breaking into members offices and searching for certain leaders? Why were Congressmen of both parties being evacuated from the premises while the Tourists carried on their vandalism? Why were Capitol police being attacked, maced and killed by these Tourists? If you truly believe 1/6 had any chance of success to destroy democracy, you are as deluded as the folks who would pay to follow a blogger. Neither event was going to change the course of our country, despite the severity of both.
They might have and could have done far worse than they managed. My point is that it wouldn’t have converted our democracy into (I guess is what you’re thinking) a dictatorship. Then what was “the Tourists” purpose of invading the Capitol Building and its House and Senate chambers during the scheduled formal certification of the election results and official tabulation of the Electoral College votes, thus certifying Joe Biden as President of the US? Answer me these questions, ‘cause I got more for you to answer, you stupid ignorant sumbitch. !
lol…so you actually thought a bunch of rioters, mostly unarmed, were going to overthrow the U.S. government? 😳Sure as hell was, one poor decision by Mike Pence away from a full-blown constitutional crisis unlike anything since the 18th century.
Why?Pretty disgusting these two events are even being compared.
To clarify, you realize it's the right that is comparing them, not Harris. Harris did not say J6 was worse than 9/11. She said J6 was the worst threat to democracy since the civil war. She in no way made any comparison to 9/11.Pretty disgusting these two events are even being compared.
I don't give a shit who is comparing them. It's gross. To clarify, you realize it's the right that is comparing them, not Harris. Harris did not say J6 was worse than 9/11. She said J6 was the worst threat to democracy since the civil war. She in no way made any comparison to 9/11.

If one is "worse", then the other is better by definition. Try reading your first post in this thread. SmhSo much anger, lol.
Now, can you point out where I said it was "better?"
I said one was more of a threat to American democracy than the other. Both were egregious.
You have to read the entire sentence, my friend. If one is "worse", then the other is better by definition. Try reading your first post in this thread. Smh
To be clear, it is a THREAT to democracy. And honestly, it’s still an active threat. While J6 was dumb as hell, I do cringe when I hear people say it ruined or would have ruined democracy in America, that’s a bridge too far. Everyone who participated is a fool and could also be labeled a traitor. But it’s not as if the structure of the government would have fallen because of it.
If one is looking objectively at which event had the potential to damage the American project (i.e. being the leading light in democracy for the world) Jan. 6 was far worse than Sept. 11.
1 million dead Iraqis and Afghanis might not agree. If one is looking objectively at which event had the potential to damage the American project (i.e. being the leading light in democracy for the world) Jan. 6 was far worse than Sept. 11.
Endless wars and growth of the industrial military complex. Lots of rights lost. Should have been on the flight I boarded from Detroit to Amsterdam after the shoe bomber. Should have been with international colleages coming into JFK from Kyiv and Munich. Then you'd understand. Wasy embarrassing and in the case of Detroit scary as hell for families with children who were not white. How do YOU think 9/11 threatened American democracy?
Over 20 years later and I still remember where I was on 9/11…….Jan 6th not so much
I truly believe J6 would never have resulted in the loss of America’s democracy. I am not defending J6 or anyone involved, they can all go to prison for all I care. For many, 9/11 was the day that is remembered because it's the day people lost their feeling of being safe. No one thought that could happen in the U.S. Just like most people thought our democracy wouldn't be at risk, and now after J6, many people have lost their feeling of being safe about democracy. It happens with everything, if a person is attacked at a certain location or time, they will forever be scared in those situations. People died for our country on 9/11 and people died for our country on J6. Some people may view J6 as less important than 9/11, but had trump been successful, J6 would have been as important as 9/11 if not more.
Afghans. Afghani is their currency.1 million dead Iraqis and Afghanis might not agree.
I remember where I was on J6; I was working from home, on a call when the other guy said “holy shiit, you should turn on the news.”Over 20 years later and I still remember where I was on 9/11…….Jan 6th not so much
9/11 was a day of very real war fought on American soil; it saw the US Capitol and Pentagon as targets to be destroyed, with one hit and the other attempt foiled by ordinary people. The financial epicenter of western civilization and the heartbeat of the American economy was attacked destroyed. The systems we knew were no longer adequate, so we usurped long standing democratic principles for safety and security. There was no vote to repeal the 4th amendment, and it certainly wasnt an election talking point — ever — but they did it with the Patriot Act. We launched a 20 year war in retaliation, and scuttled democracy to invade Iraq with lies and bad intelligence, spending trillions of taxpayer dollars in the process, on a country that had nothing to do with 9/11.You have to read the entire sentence, my friend.
It is comparing which event was a “worse” threat to Democracy.
And the answer is Jan 6.
You have now officially lost your mind if you really believe that.......If one is looking objectively at which event had the potential to damage the American project (i.e. being the leading light in democracy for the world) Jan. 6 was far worse than Sept. 11.
I truly believe J6 would never have resulted in the loss of America’s democracy. I am not defending J6 or anyone involved, they can all go to prison for all I care.
It makes more nervous that we have part of the populace who thinks that 1,000 or so rednecks and a last gasp desperation attempt by someone like Trump is enough to overthrow the democracy…because makes it easy for bad actors to setup similar events in the future for maximum effect with minimal effort.
Well he didn’t and he wasn’t even close to overthrowing our democracy. No way.It makes me nervous that we have part of the populace who thinks someone like trump can't overthrow democracy. Last time he wasn't as prepared and he used rednecks, next time he will have learned from his mistakes and will use another plan. Do you think the people who did 9/11 didn't try previous times to attack the U.S.? Should their previous attempts be viewed as a bunch of rednecks who failed. 9/11 didn't happen because the bad guys were smarter than us, 9/11 happened because we didn't plan for it or believe something like that would happen. Just like you don't believe trump could overthrow our democracy.
Well he didn’t and he wasn’t even close to overthrowing our democracy. No way.
i hear this a lot, but i never hear anyone describe how they believe trump could have retained power in the face of mass opposition. Do people think he was just going to start gassing people until the whole country fell in line? The courts all ruled against him. Even if Pence backed him, it was all a dumbass show and the liberals were smart to paint it like it was a coup to paint Trump in the worst light possible. It makes me nervous that we have part of the populace who thinks someone like trump can't overthrow democracy. Last time he wasn't as prepared and he used rednecks, next time he will have learned from his mistakes and will use another plan. You don’t need to seize the US with a large siege, you just need to occupy the Capitol. Once you do that, the country is yours!Well he didn’t and he wasn’t even close to overthrowing our democracy. No way.
