Conflict Thread

I thought Degen looked great. Good on his feet and an absolute nightmare on top. I thought he could have easily been given another set of back points.

Way to go Degen, that's my guy. His only issue is he's vulnerable to leg attacks, but he's good at grabbing ankles with his reach to either funk out of it or stalemate.

Sat mat side tonight and a few observations...

Marinelli, as we all know, is the real deal. Dominating double leg and is always attacking.

Alex Thomsen is a freaking stud. Kid has tons of confidence. I, for one, didn't hear anything about him committing

Young surprised the hell out of me. Aggressive and very technical. I sat right behind his family and his Dad was a great guy. He mentioned many of Young Guns have a ton of respect for the Hawks.

With that said the PA kids that came to Carver are really damn good.

Rentria had a tough match against a good opponent. He has the confidence and talent to be one tough SOB.

Carter Happel had a bad match up during his first match. I think they wrestle mid season and Carter wins. Also his last match was a tall task. Mikey is ranked 2nd by Flo and just a sound wrestler.

Finally heard a lil rumor that Mickey Phillippi really enjoyed his time in Iowa City although he committed to Virginia. Trust me, I'd take this kid in a heartbeat.

Looking like Happel is going to take two losses...about to get majored.

I don't get why he's ranked in the top 25 or 30. He's a good wrestler but probably shouldn't be ranked nearly so high. He's also a year older for his class. I don't see him as a must get.

Anderson put a show on also. He looked liked middle weight w his movement. But Prince didn't do much. To bad Hawks couldn't have landed him for HWT. Mizzo did well landing him.

Hindsight should've just let Gremmel and Ethan wrestle each other

His stock dropped, that's for sure. Still, think losing the first match really threw him off. Lot of pressure to defend the house and he didn't get it done.

Young doesn't generate a lot of discussion on here but he looked real good out there, always looking to pin.

Kid from Montana really raised his stock. When Happel came out and took him down right away, thought it was going to be a nice tune up for Carter. Welp...kid has a great ride and it was reported that he thinks he can start out at 133.

Agree. A number of folks have expressed a desire that Iowa get Happel and have him penciled in as a future starter. Granted he's good and certainly did well at the cadet level. But tonight's results aren't encouraging, and I'm not yet convinced he's a future star for Iowa.

knight - Good to hear Young looked good. Kid has a ton of upside and is positioned well to be a PA state champ this year. Phillippi is another Young Guns kid. Very tough to take down and can dominate on top. Lost a couple very low scoring close matches to Pletcher last year. From same high school as Gulibon from PSU. Knock on Phillippi is that he has a very defensive style and mostly scores on counters and scrambles. Word is he has focused a great deal this off season on scoring from neutral.

UVA has signed several top 25 kids from Young Guns recently. In addition to Phillippi they have signed Sam Krivus and Cam Coy. I have no idea if Phillippi is potentially reconsidering his commitment or not.

Just got home from Carver and I will give you my thoughts. I was never sold on Happel as I have said in other threads, the guy I wanted was Phillippi and shit....it didn't happen. I want the 6'7" kid Degen, man I mean he is pretty damn good. Mr. Happel sat smack behind me and he was none happy. Carter was flat disappointing.

Josh Portillo never showed up. But the Stickley kid did.

Anderson kid was very good, how in the hell did we lose him ? Dylan Prince had nothing for Ethan. MISMATCH !

Kyle Biscoglia is a very nice wrestler but nothing earth shattering

Rachel Watters was in control 7-1 and made a mistake and got pinned.

Gannon Gremmel in a mis match but he moves pretty good for a big kid I thought. Hope he joins Iowa wrestling

Aden Reeves even though he lost I hope he joins the Hawks someday. Very good !

Kaleb Young looked really good against a tough kid in Clingenpeel, you can tell he is a strong kid with talent. Impressed.

Storr wins close Match with Leisure but It looked to me Ryan was just trying to keep it close

Rathbun goes down to Murin and was not impressed by either really. Brock, with the lighter guys we have and the one's coming in, others rumored to, he would be a room guy if he comes to iowa. IMO.

Alex Thomsen please commit soon......please,please,please! Wow this kid is fun to watch.

Brody Teske I thought was very good against the SR Hayes. I Hope this kid becomes a Hawk some day also. This match I thought could have easily went the other way.

Renteria and Wagner are both going to make there team they choose very happy but Jason has that YES factor he just seems to gleam with confidents.

Alex Marinelli OH MY GOD ! Total domination against a stud in Hughes. THE BULL !

Agree w most of your analysis. I do have to disagree w Hayes/Teske. I believe Hayes wins this match 8/9 times out of 10.

Hayes controlled neutral positioning through his hands and 2 on 1 of Teske right arm. Teske seemed to have forgotten the push out rule was effect or maybe he doesn't like to circle. If I recall correctly he gave up 4 push out points
