Congrats to JR

Unfortunately, he's unlikely to stick on an NFL roster. Weak arms with inconsistent accuracy doesn't cut it in the NFL. Career development player at best but great he got drafted!

I remember reading this from Matt Miller back in November. It seems odd that some evaluators consider him to have a strong arm.
Five Names to Know
5. No. 15 QB Jake Rudock, Michigan

The former Iowa quarterback is receiving a lot of praise as the season heats up. He has NFL size (6'2", 208 lbs) and a strong arm, plus he's running a pro-style offense under Jim Harbaugh that is proven to work in the NFL. Rudock will see a ton of pressure from the Rutgers defense this week in a must-watch game.

Scott Tolzein has made a living in the NFL despite having a noodle arm. Rudock could definitely have a career as a back up.

I was surprised to see that he got drafted. Good for him. Hope he can make a career out of it. As a Vikings fan, I hope he plays a lot for the Lions!

Struggling to have success against ISU's 2014 defense that ranked 135th in the country doesn't inspire confidence of success in the NFL.

his selection was a nod to Harbaugh and Michigan ties.

So hurray for Jake Rudock (and for Austin Blythe, too, and for all the Hawks who will sign Free Agent contracts in the next few days). We nurtured Jake and he gave us the best he had; then he had the second best yardage year for a quarterback in the history of Michigan football. Austin gave us everything, and so did the other guys who together led us to 12-0 last year, and who will be doing their level best to land FA contracts now.

What kind of human are you to try to deny them the credit and the joy they deserve for such amazing accomplishments?

Thanks for sharing the fascinating, but unfortunate, story of your dad. A huge accomplishment for him!

Some on this board can't seem to separate their feelings for JR from recognition of his accomplishment. He had a great year at Michigan. As a rabid Hawk fan, I think things worked out for the best, as CJB had a great year, too. I think CJB is gonna have another great year and, barring injury, should be drafted as well.

Even if JR were to be fortunate enough to actually play an NFL game, I suspect the naysayers will still find reasons to criticize. I consider him an NFL player now, and a Hawkeye alum. I wish him the best.

Ya know we shouldn't even be having conversations with people that believe they know more than the people in the NFL making these decisions. Apparently we have arm chair quarterbacks that believe they are in the know. I really hate to break it to them ......but they are rather stupid to even remotely think they are smarter than those NFL people. Bottom line ......he was drafted because he was the next best QB in the draft. If it wasn't Detroit it would have been someone else. So please just keep your trap shut ...your making yourself really look stupid ....stupid!

^^^^ This. All day, everyday.

By your logic Rick Stanzi is NOT an NFL player?
If he hasn't taken a snap in a real nfl game....then yep.

That said he has a pretty sweet job, especially if the practice qb gets to wear the red jersey...
Nothing wrong with making some nice money and not suffering the long term effects

The butt hurt for Jake Rudock is strong in this thread. This is just a bunch of posters that don't like accepting the absolute fact that they were wrong.

Im not pointing to anyone that thought CJ would be better but for those that said things such as "Jake Rudock is not a D1 quarterback" or "Anybody with eyes could see Jake Rudock is an awful QB" or "There is no way in hell Jake Rudock will ever be drafted". Those types of posts were common place on this board. Turns out those posters had no clue. I know that is a big shock to many on this board.

Personally I never had any proof that CJ would be better. All I ever agreed on was that he had a stronger arm. From my untrained eye I hadn't seen anything from CJ in his spot duty that led me to believe he would be better. I admit I was wrong. It's not that hard to do.

However, when you are trying to be king of the Internet I guess it never helps your cause to admit you had absolutely no clue in what you were talking about when you said Jake was awful. The NFL don't draft players that are awful. You were wrong, now shut up and admit it. Put your fricken tail between your legs and just go home. The pride took a hit when Jake got drafted, it's time to move on......or don't.

Cheers

For the record I said Iowa had two starting D1 QB's only they weren't starting the best.

As almost everyone else calling for CJ to start. I don't recall too many people saying Rudock was awful. I'm sure some people said it during games, but it was more a result of knowing CJ was better and gave us a much better chance to win, yet Kirk was being stubborn.

I mean we are splitting hairs here I guess, but IMO if you are paid by an NFL franchise you are an NFL player
I usually reserve "that guy is an NFL player", when I actually see them in a regular or postseason NFL game. The actual NFL games are for actual NFL players.

Didn't realize this was so difficult.

There's a big difference between going to a training camp and being an NFL player.

I guess this would be the definitive question: Was James Vandenberg an NFL player?

Just so we are clear. Rick Stanzi is not an NFL player. Got it.

I am willing to bet that every single player, coach, GM and front office person would disagree with you. Somehow, I think, their opinion is going to hold more water than your "expert" opinion.
