157lber Dylan Palacio looks to be out for the year and has medically withdrawn from the university. He was currently ranked 8th. Tough break, kid was super athletic and fun to watch.

Had to look that up (this is not from Cornell, but assume it means mostly the same thing).

A Medical Withdrawal is requested when a student is suffering from a medical condition that prevents the completion of the semester. If a student is approved for medical withdrawal, a refund of tuition fees is also approved.

That doesn't sound good.

dang hate to hear this, I think cornell is good for wrestling and yet I find myself cheering against them often.

This is the same kid that acted like he just cured cancer at National duals last year at Carver after narrowly beating a 60% Nick Moore and that Meyer gave the famous "you shall not pass" shrug on his way to the tunnel, no?

If so, pardon me if I don't shed a tear...

Dependable old Gobblin...Sympathy sits between shit and syphilis in the dictionary don't it ;)

Good recall, Gobblin. I'd forgotten about that. It was some very poor sportsmanship on his part, and I must say that Meyer having trouble finding room for him to pass after that display was hilarious. Would never wish injury on anyone, but not a big fan based on that showboating display.

Seriously??? If so, I agree with PSU Mike - wow.

Before you start criticizing Palacio too much maybe you should look at some of the antics of Iowa's guys at the National Duals last year. Gilman even managed to inspire a rule change with his in-match garbage against Waters. Let's not go pretending Palacio was THE bad guy from last year...

Well if medically withdrew from the University ten does that mean he could possibly have serious health concerns not an injury? That is how I perceived it and if so prayers go out to the kid regardless of how he acted at the national duals. I agree that if you don't want to watch them celebrate then don't lose.

As for the "in match garbage" against Waters I think it was somewhat BS but at the same time if the refs don't let Waters stall it would create action and Gilman would not be forced to plant him on his ass. And lets not act like Waters never committed any punk behavior either.

Nobody said the kid is injured. I'm guessing he is THAT sick. And I wish that on no one.

The Cornell coach is from State College Pa. His dad was head coach at PSU back in the day.

We were all here last year and know what happened then. Where were you?

While it's not the term used by Palacio in his statement, Cornell policy does allow for a "Health Leave of Absence" in the case of illness or injury which "...is judged to significantly impair his or her ability to function successfully as a student..." So if he had to miss significant class time for surgery and/or recovery from injury or illness (or maybe both?), this would be an appropriate action.

Devil's in the details...not all appendicitis is the same. Perforation, phlegmon, etc; ergo the disclaimer "usually".

Dylan Palacio
I've received numerous inquiries regarding Dylan and his medical withdrawal from school. Dylan has received numerous questions regarding his status and he tried to answer all this questions via one social media Instagram blast. The beauty of this was that now I got to receive a few hundred questions regarding his status! The good news is Dylan is coming along quickly and will be back in action sooner than later. No, he will not be out for the year, yes, he will be back for the second semester, (no later than the Southern Scuffle), and I don't know if he will be at 157 or 165. I hope this clears this up.
