Creighton 11/14

18 3’s against a very overmatched team last night. But damn can they score and get up and down the court. And they lost 2 really good players to transfer. McDermott definitely has a system at Creighton. I have a feeling Fran will try to run with them as it’s our style as well and it’s not going to be pretty.

It's going to be a test and win or lose it will be a helpful lesson for all the new guys on the floor for the Hawks.

Interesting roster - 5 guys from Nebraska and the rest for all over, including 2 foreign players. He's done a really good job there.

I like that they've got this game, regardless of the outcome.
If they take a beating, meh. An away game against a highly regarded opponent is good to have early in the schedule. Keep it a close loss and it's a nice confidence builder. And there's always the chance they are hot from the perimeter, catch creighton on an off night and pull the upset.

I was at the game when Iowa played Creighton at Well Fargo. Damn that was ugly. Hopefully game is more competitive this time.

I've watched both of Creighton's games this season.

They've got great size at the 4 and 5. And everyone is a threat from behind the 3 (minus Kalkbrenner and King). Insanely good guard play from Trey Alexander. He's the guy. I'm not worried all that much about Kalkbrenner. Other than him tipping out offensive boards out to wide open shooters. Opposing guard play is usually what sinks Iowa and Alexander is going to present a problem. Other than that I like Iowa to use their depth to create turnovers and press. If Iowa can't get Creighton to alter their shots it'll be a long night. I trust Iowa will be physical inside.

We’ll be an 8-10 point underdog vs a very good Creighton team. We’ll find out real quick what this team has.
This could easily be an ugly loss and I'm not sure it would mean or tell us much.

That's what I expect really, a not great performance followed by a bunch of overreaction about talent level.

No offense, but what else would you expect? For Fran to "dial up the defense"??

First road game, good opponent, young team. Iowa will shoot a lot of 3s and they didn't shoot them well on the road last year.

Iowa hasn’t typically done well in these type of early non con games.
There's upsets all the time in collage basketball....wait for it!

first odds I saw this morning was...

Creighton -8.5
O/U 159.5
That's a slightly lower spread and O/U than I would have guessed TBH. It's amazing how much KenPom influences the betting market; KP has Creighton by 9 and the total as 161.

I watched part of Creighton's first game. They looked excellent. On offense, they had a lot of size and overall offensive skill as well as very rapid ball movement. Slowing down that offense will be a huge challenge. Defensively, they showed a lot of intensity. Perhaps they aren't super athletic but it didn't really look like it - they pressured the ball and cut off dribble penetration. Plus they've got a huge shot blocker at the rim.

What I want to know is WhyTF did they schedule 3 games on the same night so that this game doesn't tip until somewhere between 9 & 9:30p CDT?

I'm gonna watch regardless, but the scheduling for these games makes no sense.

3 to 4 time slots available the rest of the week, sans the weekend - no GG games being played on Thursday - instead they cram 3 games on the same network b2b2b.

The Iowa game probably won't start on FS1 until 5 to 10 minutes after the start of the game. Wisconsin and Illinois games notoriously last longer then the 2 hours allotted to them. There are no replays of the Iowa game later on FS1.

Yeah whose bright idea was it to start this f***ing game at 9 pm?

Kick that person in the groin (I say groin in case it was a woman that made that call)...............

Does the game really start at 9?
Yes and no.

Yes, its scheduled to start at 9p CDT. But no, in that the tip will likely be pushed back to at least 9:10/:15 to allow for 'run over' of the 2nd game (MARQ @ ILL).

Why they felt the need to force 3 games in one night on one channel, when there are zero GG games scheduled for Thursday night, and only 1 both Wed. & Friday, is just dumb.

Best two Creighton players are not from Nebraska. New point guard from Utah State, who is a better fit than R2 off to Gonzaga isn't from Nebraska either. Starting PF is Mike Miller's son is from Memphis, as is Lawson who transferred in from Memphis.

Two top players off bench returning from last year's team are not from the 50 states and prepped at an NBA school.

Yes, they have five Nebraska guys. One starts for his second season at CU, after transferring. Two off bench are freshman, one a RS who transferred from UVA. Two more have yet to play, one is a CC transfer and the other is a redshirt freshman who hasn't played yet.

12.5. Will be a tough atmosphere for Iowa. Nebraska hates Iowa and for all intents and purposes, this is a Nebraska crowd.
