Well, I didn’t phrase that quite right. I agree with you. It was more a comment on being intellectually honest with the relative effects. But as for most things, follow the money, religion, or both.
Missouri and Illinois are making billions. Iowa would rather spend money prosecuting stupid crimes.
That should be all of the validation one needs.
Illinois is going to be close to be $700billion to $1 trillion dollars in debt in their 2025 fiscal budget depending on the article. They need to raise the taxes on dope or have their lawmakers stop smoking it.
And their taxes on dope are a lot higher then MO or MI from my experience.
They might want to legalize a few more things to help out.
this is exactly how states that sell it recreationally treat it. Almost exactly like alcohol.
It actually means very little for Iowa’s outlook. Florida allows citizen-initiated ballot measures, Iowa does not.
I think it's pretty unlikely Iowa/Nebraska would legalize before its federally legal.
Not every day, no.
I also don’t think the effects of alcohol and caffeine are remotely similar.

This is the most likely outcome… but what if the feds decriminalize but still leave gray area for states to make their own call? I could see that happening and then Iowa and Nebraska would still not allow it to be sold within their borders.. I guess I think the feds have to give an absolute green light for sales before a citizen can legally purchase.
Iowa and Nebraska governors really pander to the pearl clutchers. Former Nebraska governor, now state senator, literally said "This is a dangerous drug that will impact our kids," Ricketts told reporters on Wednesday. "If you legalize marijuana, you’re gonna kill your kids. That’s what the data shows from around the country."
Nebraska has now twice had enough signatures to put to a public vote, and twice now it has been removed bc either the Nebraska supreme court said "no, we're not going to vote on that" or moved the goalposts and added more requirements.
Just not gonna happen.
