Is there a difference between walk on/preferred walk on?

I think a preferred walk on has a guaranteed spot on the roster, a regular walk on does not. I could be wrong though.

I thought I read a couple od years ago that they got everything except the scholarship money for paying for college.

All walk-ons get the same benefits. There are different types of walk-ons but non are on scholarship, at least initially. They all can get food benefits.
