One of the biggest points of contention amongst the fanbase is our near-infamous inability to close out games on offense when all we need is a score or even just a 1st down to ice a game.

But prior to the Outback Bowl following the 2018 season, the same argument could be raised (to an extent) about the defense as well.

However, similar to how the "fake punt" seemed to change the fate of Iowa football for years, Iowa's late game stop against Mississippi State to clinch the Outback Bowl seemed to mark a shift in that narrative, and more often than not in the years since, our defense has been able to come up with key stops late in close games, many of which were game-ending stops.

And tonight's game further added to rewriting that narrative as our defense comes through once again with the final stand to win the game.
