Des Moines getting a Five Guys

Didn't know Tacopocalypse did breakfast. Might have to try it but I've done lunch there twice with 2 different groups totaling around 15-18 people and not a single person thought it lived up to the hype.

Zombie burger? More of my friends/family like it than Tacopocalypse but still more than half (including myself) view it too as someplace that is overhyped/overrated. ZB seems to have an certain demographic following. Most people still in their 20s like it but most over 30 recognize it for what it really is.

Granted...these 2 places are convenient if you live in the East Village.

They do brunch on Sundays. The biscuits and gravy are pretty fantastic.

People have weird expectations from restaurants that are popular. If they have any hype at all it seems like if it isn't the greatest thing they've ever had in their life it somehow doesn't live up to the hype or whatever. There are also the types (not saying you) that will crap on anything that is popular because that somehow makes them better in their own minds. Strange phenomenon.

I'm not a big fan of the tortilla they use for their tacos at TP, but that's about my only knock on the place.

They're both restaurants that are unique, execute their preparations well, and offer something different than your standard fare. People need to temper their expectations a bit and just enjoy things for what they are.

And some of you wonder why you are fat? Holy balls! May I suggest reading this thread?

Gotta agree with H Prime. QT is IMO the best convenience store. Love Casey's pizza and I own Casey's stock but overall neither Casey's nor K&G can come close to QT.

Is it just Kwik Star that does the whole script thing? I mean, they will watch me ride my bike to the store and when I get to the counter they ask if I had gas outside. And with a full, gray beard, I get id'd which requires you to remove it from your wallet. I try my best to stay out of them.

Their recent renovations at some of the local stores around here have been impressive.

What I think sets QT apart from the others is their consistency. There are individual Caseys and K&G stores that do a great job and more than exceed what I'd expect.....but there are C and KG which also fail miserably.

I can somewhat understand Casey's lack of consistency because they will go into the smaller market and towns that other chains will not touch. They are after a whole different niche than K&G strategy of "let's find an investor to build one at each interstate exit for us to lease where we have a captive clientele who stops only because of the convenience of where it's at and not the overall quality of the store, products, people, or prices."

As far as consistency K&G is all over the place in the store itself and more importantly, the quality of the people they put in them.

Sioux City has already had a Five Guys. It's gone. They weren't going to pay crazy prices for a mediocre burger.

It's good, but nothing outstanding that I couldn't live without. Kind of along the same lines as Smashburger.

Now if we're talking in-n-out, I'm be interested. I know it's slop but the burgers have always been fantastic.

I am fortunate to have access to and experience with many good places to eat. I do like to try things that are new and different BUT in the end it still needs to be good and not just a gimmick (ZB ) or a lot of really unusual items (TP). I don't regret going to TP and ZB (both multiple times) but see no reason to return unless I'm with a group who really wants to go then I'll just keep ordering something different and maybe find something that works.

Average joint. Bag o fries is quite enchanting I reckon.
Problem with the fries is that they tend to be soggy and there really isn't consistency across franchises. I've had one good order of fries from there and many bad ones. I've had them in a number of cities when I travelled for work.

Went to one while visiting my brother in Florida.......kept telling me how good their fries were......the ones I got were basically a bag of soft, mushy, horribly seasoned crap. I thought the burger was pretty good, but the fries......you can have them.
